Co-principals for the P-10

In the world of ACT Education “innovation” seems to be “untested experiments to try on your child”.

It’s a problem because you can’t just trade the kid in if the twelve year experiment doesn’t work out.

Andrew Barr has announced that the already novel Kambah school serving primary kiddies to year 10 young adults is to have “an exciting new initiative” in the form of diffused responsibility at the top with not one but two principals:

am pleased to annouce that Lynn Petersen and Pam Rosser will be the new co-principals of the $56.5 million Kambah P-10 school. Appointing co-principals is an exciting new initiative in ACT public schools.

This innovation put forward by Lynn Petersen and Pam Rosser supports recommendations in the review of school based management as well as my drive to give principals more powers to make their schools even better. It is about providing school leaders with more flexibility to decide how to provide students in their care with the very best education.

The lucky ladies are also off to the Harvard Graduate School of Education for a leadership course.

I have worked with Lynn and Pam in the past, and they will be very well suited to the role. Two more caring and committed teachers/administrators would be hard to find.

Well done and congrats!!

wow a novel idea, a principal for the k-6 and another for 7-10. Never heard of such an occurrence EVER..

I fairly certain there are various other schools which have been combined that have more than one principal, or deputies to do the same thing.

Hmmm… They were the two deputies out at Amaroo School (at least between 2005-2008 when I was there).

I’m guessing that they knew how to run one of these p-10 schools (Amaroo is one), and thus were given the job.

I still wouldn’t send my kids to one of those schools (Maybe Telopea though)

This innovation put forward by Lynn Petersen and Pam Rosser?

So they put it forward and the ACT Government thought it a good idea? Very innovative….NOT.

Also, I am guessing this means 2 Pincipdals salaries??

Nice.
