Coe weeps for the Majura Parkway bike path

May as well try and court a few bike riders before the election, eh? Some of them may be fooled.

But anyone paying attention for the last few years will know how negative Coe and his liberal buddies really are about cycling.

Remember him complaining about the amount it costs to pay for the green paint in cycle lanes?

The other thing of course is that this is also courting car drivers, and there’s probably an element of ‘the roads belong to the cars, the bikes belong somewhere else’ to this.

Spot on. The whole path would service the insanely small amount of cyclists living in the top end of Gungahlin that work at the airport and choose to ride. I find it odd that it was even proposed in the first place.

Hmm. Has finally understood that the more people who can safely and efficiently use alternative travel methods, the better the roads are for those who have to drive? Or jumping on to an issue for the sake of having another shot at the government?

Apart from the obvious users – Gungahlinites commuting to the airport + Fyshwick, it would also be useful for access to Mountain Biking at Majura Pines.

My own experience is riding that road (which has no shoulder) + lots of cars + heavy trucks + roos playing in traffic = quite “interesting”

Yes, the entire expanse of Canberra really is nowhere, in the middle of nowhere.

Or, the cycle path links up the same places that the road will since it, you know, will run along side it.
