Comets have some early season success in Darwin

By Thumper 11 September 2006 9

The ACT Cricket website is remarkably up to date and is reporting that the Comets have had a successful series in the Top End playing NSW, QLD, Tassie and NT, only losing to a star studded NSW side.

In other cricket news there is a rumour that Ginninderra has secured the services of a Hampshire County player from England. As to whom, I have no idea at this stage.

What’s Your opinion?

They used to have a veterans comp which was played on turf. It was 20-25 overs per side or something like that.

Thumper, we should start a social comp (on turf) for the older bodies. 40 overs a side, Sundays – or alternate Sundays. Min. age limit: 40 or over.

yeah Heavs, and a couple of other name players, one who played for the Comets as an 18 year old quickie. Another from Sydney first grade as well…

Talking to a first grader yesterday who suggested that the Hampshire guy could possibly be the best bat in the ACT.

Geez, We’re going to have a strong second and third grade side. Looks like fives for me if I can get this old body to move….

I’m looking forward to this season!

Got a couple of young ACT U19 lads down from Goulburn as well I hear. Story I hear with the County lad is that he is a dual citizen and is looking to get into Comets and maybe state cricket after that. Not out here for the hit and giggle. Proof is in the pudding but.

Yepm so does Pietersen…

But I kind of think it’s neither of them.

“As to whom, I have no idea at this stage”: doesn’t Warney play for Hants?
-In which case, all of the above descriptions are relevant.

Or for every fifty or hundred he hits he can have a free half hour or hour to whinge about aussie weather/beer/bogans or whatever to whoever.

It doesn’t matter as long as he belts a few runs…

Hopefully he’s being paid in beers, then he’ll perform.

Poor ginninderra

There’s no man in the world so lazy as a county pro on a cricket holiday.
