Commando Steve to hit Canberra this weekend!

Canberrans young and old are encouraged to get active with Commando Steve, star of Australia’s Biggest Loser, at a free Health and Fitness Day at the Patrick White Lawns (next to the National Library) this Saturday.

Organised by local fitness provider, Battle Camp Fitness, the highlights of the day will be two boot camps, where Canberrans will be put through their paces by Commando Steve. Although tickets to the sessions are sold out, spectators are encouraged to come and watch the high profile coach in action, and cheer on participants.

The sessions are part of a full day (9:30am to 4:30pm) of free health and fitness activities that includes market stalls from: Defence Force Recruiting, local fitness providers, nutrition experts, and more…plus there’ll be healthy food and juices on sale!

It’s an event for the whole family, with the event’s nominated charity Partner, the Physical Activity Foundation providing kids’ activities for a gold coin donation for those wishing to participate. The Tradies Canberra Capitals will be leading the fun activities, and the Fruit and Vege Pledge mascots, Posh Pear and Busy Broccoli, will also be there to entertain children.

“Our aim is to get all kids, more active, more often and we know that when kids and their families are active, everyone’s a winner when it comes to health and well being”, said Lucille Bailie, CEO, Physical Activity Foundation.

There’ll also be demonstrations by Australia’s Federation Guard Precision Drill Team and the ACT Fire & Rescue Truck; and a series of ‘Mini Fit’ sessions including boot camp, dance fitness, cardio box and more that everyone can get involved with!

Owners of Battle Camp Fitness, Dan Ford and James Humphreys, say they are excited to give Canberrans the chance to get up close and personal to Commando Steve and to organise a day that celebrates the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.

“We can’t wait to show Steve what Canberra is made of, and to give people a taste of the very active health and fitness industry we have in this city!”

Steve says he is expecting to show up prepared to “stand on the line to give it their all.”

“The sessions will take people outside their comfort zones and give them the opportunity to experience new things – whether they are stepping back into fitness and using the session as a springboard, or already quite fit and looking for a challenge. More so than anything, it’s about having fun!”

“…plus there’ll be healthy food and juices on sale!”
