Committing to even further improve regulation, for sex workers

Simon Corbell has announced he’s going to do as little as possible with the sex industry in Canberra.

A classic piece of weaseling is “committing to even further improve regulation” in the intro par. That’s followed up with “strengthening measures to prevent”, and then a “also examining ways to tighten up regulations”.

But then we a really start to ascend the lofty heights of public policy backpedalling: “recommendations are noted for possible action, subject to available resources”.

But there is going to be a working group.

For a Territory boasting in recent years a convicted sex slaver and a fatally overdosed 16 year old in a brothel he’s remarkably calm about the state of regulation.

UPDATE 06/06/12 14:52: The AIDS Action council is pretty pleased with the continuing status quo.
