We are conducting a research study as part of an Australian National University (ANU) course project on community organisations.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could spare about 60 seconds to complete an online survey that we have compiled, and which is available to complete online here.

Thanks for your time.

Point taken. I’ll shut up.

No need to rubbish a student’s studies Maeliner. It’s hard enough to get respondents to surveys without deriding commentary from overly pessimistic and vocal observers.

Maelinar, please stop trying to speak for the site as you really have very little clue.

Commenters make up a fraction of readers and frankly in large part YOUR yahooing keeps the lurkers from saying more.

You’re not the only one, but you certainly make the most mis-informed commentary on the operation of the site. And that’s rally saying something.

Now, back on topic, about this study….

And how are they going to be directed towards the study Overheard ?

Adverts on news.com ?

My point was that by merely dumping a story on RA, you are going to get a distorted snapshot – and is that what anybody is after ?

This just in: RiotACT users are predominantly in the IT trade, AFP, and a large percentage of them are volunteers.

really? then why haven’t I seen the pin at more client sites?

and what is wrong with the name peter?? you could say that most of the RA readers are named john, or tim, or matthew.

I filled in the survey. It doesn’t bother me any. If some guy or girl is getting a degree from this, more power to them.

I think you are over analysing the need to use the RA readership as survey participants, many people I know are looking at RA, and will mention things of interest to others. who then (shock, horror, dismay) visit RA.

as for all bar nun, haven’t been there for over 3-years. don’t drink.

Going out on a limb here, but maybe he’s not keeping it a secret just for us.

Just like when I use RA to promote gigs or events, it pains me to break this to you, but I’ve been seeing other web-sites and mailing lists.

Someothershityouprobablyhadn’tnoticed: A disproportionate amount of RA readers (to normal population) have the first name Peter. Go figure that one out. RiotACT also has a very active cross-spectrum arts membership (predominantly music), and a surprising number of posters here are also active in the Australian Biodiesel community.

And I haven’t even started on Environmental issues, the Canberra Raiders, or vehicles and roads which there is an abundance of evidence that points towards these being passionate issues.

The bar you are most likely to run into a RiotACT poster in Canberra is the All Bar Nun.

I can probably come up with some more steriotypical behaviours if I put more than 5 minutes thinking into it, which is the limit of this post.

They are?

Hate to point out the obvious, but the RiotACT isn’t representative of the whole of society, as it (until they brought their new sign) is a website that attracts likeminded individuals via word of mouth and google.

This just in: internet users apart from RiotACT users are able to access the internet, including Sammy’s survey.

I don’t consider any of the options to be “Community” organisations.

Can you do a research study (as a part of an Australian National University (ANU) course project) on how many research study participants originated from the RiotACT ?

That way, you could just go back to all of those old studies, and just take a new statistic off the top, without requiring any thought as to why we might need to do another ‘new study’ ?

Hate to point out the obvious, but the RiotACT isn’t representative of the whole of society, as it (until they brought their new sign) is a website that attracts likeminded individuals via word of mouth and google.

Pretty much stuffs up any ‘statistical’ gathering you are doing, unless the ‘study’ is on internet using community organisations – most of which are beyond even having a website in Canberra.

So, come clean. What is it that you are studying, what is the line of your project ? Did you get the idea to post on the RiotACT from previous posters on the same subject (ANU course projects ad infinitum) ? Statistically, are you factoring in that this forum is not representative of the entire community ?
