The ACT’s electoral system is so badly broken apparently it requires a swathe of the Inner North to pretend it’s part of Belconnen.
And if you need an elected representative (rather the point of paying for the whole farcical exercise) you’ve got at best five able to fob you off to another one (seven if you live in Molonglo).
The Canberra Times reports the Electoral Commissioner thinks things need to change too.
But within the London Circuit Soviet matters are rather conveniently arranged for their comfort, and thus they have resolutely refused to come to any agreement about change.
The Electoral Commissioner is reportedly suggesting that perhaps the matter might be put to the people at next year’s election. However Simon Corbell, while agreeing in principle that change would be a good thing, has in his wisdom determined that next year is far too soon (despite the issue having been on the table for the nine years since 2002).
Maybe 2016? Maybe never…
