Confucious comes to Dickson

By johnboy - 24 September 2010 15

The ABC’s Craig Allen has penned an excellent history about the last ten years of Sino-ACT relations to celebrate the installation of a giant limestone statue of Confucious at the corner of Woolley and Cape Streets.

Perhaps now would be an appropriate moment to share your favourite Confucious joke below.

What’s Your opinion?

It was actually the Chinese Ambassador presenting the statue to Jon Stanhope. Wouldn’t it be the most profound news of this century if the Chinese regime really could embrace the virtues professed by Confucius. If so, all human rights prisoners would be released and deep apologies and compensation for their sufferings would be offered to them.
Let’s only hope that this statue is the first gesture for the communist regime to adopt a more humanitarian approach to the freedom inherent in being human.

I should make myself a bit more clearer and rephrase my original statement.

Didn’t Confucianism get the same treatment during the Cultural Revolution as the Falun Gong (until recently, so it says in Wikipedia).

What’s the chance that something happens to scare the Chinese government of Confucianism, such as a mass gathering of crowd of people who present themselves as Confucianism, and the religion/philosophy being banned yet again?

Is the ACT government sending a subtle message to Beijing?

Man in shower holding tool not necessarily plumber

No such thing as rape, woman with dress up run faster than man with trousers down.

man who goes to bed with erectile problems wakes up with solution in hand…

confucianism is logical humanism, from my recollection of my philosophy undergrad; and quite benign, really, focussed on peace and harmony – falun dafa (falun gong) is more akin to chinese scientology with some weird precepts on a number of topics, including homosexuality and a supernatural mode of human thought. it is also coercive in its doctrine, which i don’t believe is true of confucianism – which is also much funnier…

well, they’re very different.

Is the Stanhope government attempting to:
a) appease China (a little bit of Chinese symbol in Canberra, whatever that may be)
b) berate China (religious freedom and human rights)

Which is it?

Confucious say “Man who walk on plane sideways going to Bangkok”

shirty_bear 10:21 am 24 Sep 10

You mean like, Confucius say “He who goes to bed with itchy bottom wake up with smelly finger”?

You mean like that, only better, right?

I suppose it’s better than statues of mafia drug dealers (and Ellnor, just where is Donald MacKay’s body?).
