MICHAEL Wells blasted the deciding run out of the ballpark to earn the Canberra Cavalry the title of Australian Baseball League champions on Saturday night.
Canberra beat Perth Heat 7-6 in game two to ensure the Claxton Shield will reside in the ACT for the first time in the national title’s 78-year history.
The top-seeded Cavalry swept the two-time reigning champion 2-0, having won the opening game of the final series 6-4.
Canberra first baseman Aaron Sloan was named MVP of the series, hitting .625 and scoring three runs on the weekend.
