Conspiracy #2010 measures up

You might remember last week I posted a theory about how the NoWaste by 2010 campaign is going to be achieved by making it so we actually have nowhere to put our waste.

Well, I have measured the two types of bins pictured and it all adds up.

The older style bin is 99 x 39 x 39cm (as mentioned earlier). This works out at 150,579 cubic cm or 150.579 litres.

The newer bins’ measurements are 73 x 43 x 43cm, giving them a volume of 134,977 cubic cm or 134.977 litres.

Which makes them 15L smaller than the older ones!

A committee needs to be set up immediately.

What a disgrace!

Indeed this reduction means that there are now active forms of discrimination in some suburbs, indeed in some streets, maybe your neighbour has a bigger bin than you, perhaps you should report them to Urban Services as a chronic rubbish waster.

Thumper the appropriate Corbellism is “wheely bin amenity” just perhaps we can have a community council for all future bin issues. 😉

I’m sorry, but it is much worse than a 15L reduction, there is also a matter of 602mL which also don’t fit into the new bins. There is also no such thing as saying also too many times in the one sentence also.

My bins are usually empty anyway. I just toss my ribbish out my gas guzzling car’s window. Keeps someone in a job to pick it up – good for the economy.

I hereby apologise for my selfish part in the earlier thread. I understand that my comments amply demonstrate that I probably am a wasteful self-interested ignoramus.

I will remember from now on not to dignify any lighthearted conversation on this site by replying to it. I realise that doing so is entirely inappropriate.

I failed to read in the original comment any complaint about the issue – just a joke about how they’re planning to go about the scheme. Maybe people should not jump to conclusions about meaning that has not been expressed (nor implied), and we wouldn’t all have to get so damned defensive.

No need for name calling – get a sense of humour.

i’ll pick the latter!

OK ssanta. I support the idea but as I hadn’t said anything (ie, had shut up) I suppose I had wasted my chance. But now that I’m saying something I’m am still wasting my chance. Ssanta your logic has destoryed me!

Oh and as is stated in the FAQ, at RIOT, you post it you own it. The opinions expressed in any one story or comment are those of the poster. If you agree or disagree post your own comment. In this regard there is no RIOTACT or all the readership is RIOTACT, take your pick.

Perhaps the next step in the conspiracy theory ought be how we can best limit the output of our rubbish by such things as composting, recycling more, reducing plastic bags use etc.

NoWaste 2010 is a good idea, but for the lazy folk who cant get their head around the simple of concept of waste minimisiation by composting, purchasing goods that are and their packaging is recycable and biodegradable you wouldn’t have had fiddle around measuringing rubbish bins.

Canberra is too small and badly positioned in a watershed to have urban landfill sites all over the shop. No offence, but yet again the good folk at RiotAACT had the chance to shut up and support what is essentially is a good idea, but wasted the chance.
