Construction challenges for the Lyneham Dam

No Admittance

To a true Inner Northican there are three North-South arterial routes in the area. Majura/Limestone, Northbourne, and Sullivans Creek.

Assuming the weather is fine you can scoot along the stormwater drain underpassing all the roads, from Civic to Dickson. Many people do.

Which as you can see has presented the builders of the new dam in Lyneham with a peculiar challenge in shutting down the traffic on this unusual thoroughfare.

But it is handy for limbo practice.

Sure, why not?

When slippery they are fantastic for providing the cyclist with a broken wrist…..

Something similar happened to me while riding a pocket bike in a drain underground once…

I as teenager, is was riding my bicycle in a drain in Curtin one time with my cousin. All went well until we hit some green slime coming out of a tributary. We stacked the bikes and were covered in slime and had bark off us.

Can anyone point me in the direction of whats happening on the other side of Mouat Street – along the back of the Southwell Park sports fields?

I went for a wander there on the weekend. They seem to be simply putting the drain underground. I assume this will take care of any peak flows that new funky wetland enabled drainage plans don’t handle. It also lets them simply connect up all the little drains that currently feed into the channel, rather then redo everything.

I always thought it’d be a good raceway for a pair of hovercrafts

The plan for the Lyneham Wetlands looks great!

I thought they were continuing the wetlands thing there but it looks like they’re actually covering over the creek in concrete. Is this part of the irrigation system for the fields and the golf course?

I’ve had a look around the ACT Dept. of Enviro. and ACTPLA but can’t find anything specific on this section of Sullivan’s Creek.

Whats the go?

I think it is part of the ‘Master plan’ for the area… i saw an artist impression last year where they were toying with the idea of linking Ginninderra Drv and Northbourne Ave. I could be wrong though…

I’ve been meaning to check to see what that sign says, no need to bother now.

Not sure about motorbikes, but it’s not uncommon to see a car end up in Sullivans Creek. Although, it’s been a while since one has been dumped there I must say.

Does anybody ever ride their motorbike through the drains, Terminator 2 style?

Never seen it, but plenty of pushbikes.

Also “the-riotact” you’re going to need to get a different login.
