Cooking classes in Canberra?

I have decided this year to branch out from trying out new dance classes to trying something I might actually be able to share with people, i.e. learning how to cook (well, cook new things).

Does anyone have any recommendations on good cooking classes – or places I should avoid?

Thanks!

depends on what kind of cuisine one wants to learn.
Although i have heard from a friend about some 3 seeds website.

Try some good you tube channels. Gives really useful recipes.
learnt amazing chocolate mousse and Italian pink sauce pasta

Foodish is running a Spring Masterclass series at Dickson College’s hospitality kitchen. The classes run over six weeks beginning in mid-October. There’s a real variety of what is offered, with classes on Canapés, Thai food, Macarons, Italian food, Japanese food, and Ice cream/Sorbet.

The cost is $55 per class or $300 to take part in the full set.

If you go to http://www.cookingclassescanberra.com.au you can book online.

3 seeds cooking classes at Fyshwick is great can recommend them

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. 3seeds seems to be very popular, most of their current classes are already booked out!

Another question – for those who did cooking classes where you need to bring your own knife, any recommendations on what kind of knives might be good? I only have a Wiltshire one that I use for everything.

I did a cooking class with 3seeds or podfood as it was called then. Enjoyed it a lot.

I can also thoroughly recommend 3seeds. I’ve done four classes with Andrew, both at Podfood and now at 3seeds. He has excellent knowledge and skill, and the food is great! A lot of fun.

Senso at the Fyshwick markets have pretty regular one-off courses, and I think they also run a full cooking diploma. We went and did a risotto evening with them a year or so ago and enjoyed it. It involved learning and trying a bunch of different ways to cook risotto, and then we all sat down and ate what we’d cooked. Their kitchen accommodates maybe 20 people, so the classes aren’t too big. No idea how their other courses are, but the few events we’ve done there we have enjoyed.

I did a Spanish cooking class at Ginnederra College last year that was great fun, especially the Sangria! It’s called Spanish Cooking with Lumi.

Two heard on Genevieve’s show on 666.

– Deakin Thai cooking school
– French cooking school in Bungendore

Good luck! Let us know how you go.
