Corflute Carnage

Driving along Barry Drive this morning, I noticed that most of the election signage for both the Greens and Labor has been destroyed, only a few Rise Up Australia Party signs were left standing. I was driving, so could not take a photo.

Now while I do believe that roadside election signage is a blot on the landscape, they are technically private property and destroying them, even if they belong to the Sheiker, is illegal.

Seeing that the signs for Danny Naliah’s merry band of nut jobs were left standing made me ponder whether this was an act of God, smiting those who would support gay marriage. Or was it a cunning plot by one of the other parties to make the ALP and greens less visible or perhaps just a random act of vandalism.

Crikey from yesterday carried the story of Labor staffer and volunteers defaced Lib candidate signs, so are we seeing similar puerile tactics emerging in the ACT?

Are the Greens sign biodegradable? mmmmmmm

Most of the signs will be damaged within days to a week. The police don’t care. I guess that makes it open season on signs.

The Greens (turquoise?) signs are probably more vulnerable because there are so many of them (often in clumps) and they have been there so long.

Andrew Leigh’s are probably the safest because they are so small.

I bet illegal refugees did it…………..either that, or someone from Queanbeyan.

I saw a sign this morning that just said “ZED”, which I thought worked well for “the end” being scribbled underneath…

But the cleverest thing I’ve seen was alongside one of the Greens’ “Abbott-proof the Senate” signs, some clever business had added signs saying “Hunger-proof your stomach”. Unfortunately, they vanished hours afterwards, which is very sad as it was the best I’d seen.

Driving up the Monaro this morning I saw a sign that says ‘Zed for Tuggeranong’.

It’s crying out for someone with a really big texta to write in ‘doesn’t care’ between the words ‘Zed’ and ‘for’.

Yeah there was a big trailer sign on Gungahlin Drive this morning “Zed for Gungahlin Families”.

Spent the rest of my drive trying to figure out how that makes Gungahlin singles, dog owners, and Spaghetti Monster Worshipers feel… and just what kind of person that banner appeals to.

I mean, is there really someone who’s driving along at this point, who doesn’t know where their Senate vote will go, who sees that and thinks “well shit, if he’s got my family’s interests at heart, he gets my vote!”.

Is that really going to work like that?

I mean, *warning, political statement to follow that could invalidate all further comments from me for the next fortnight* never mind the fact that Zed’s Libs pretty much want to ream the Public Service, the great money teat from which a decent percentage of “Gungahlin Families” derive their income.

It’s not like Labor and the endless “efficiency dividends” aren’t having a similar effect, albeit over a longer time frame and with more Orwellian distortion in the language. But, you know, promote yourselves to the community as having their family’s interests at heart. By all means.

Meanwhile on corflute deconstruction, my comments on an “ad hoc ergo propter hoc” basis were to note the correlation between the disappearance of Greens signs along Gininderra Drive around the same time as the posters for certain other local members appeared. Not saying it was systemic and by design of the party machine, but there really is no zoo without a Gorilla or two eh?

…Maybe the Rise Up signs were beaten down like the others but then they began to Rise Up…

You mean like a Tippy Toy? Patent that idea, it’s genius.

Meanwhile well done to the Tuggeranong Eatery who’s name escapes me for the election style signage they stuck out along Drakeford Drive that I saw at the weekend. Well played to you sirs. I’d vote Parma too 🙂

Funny you should mention that. I’m rabidly against The Greens but I noticed that Sheik’s signs had the word “Arab” spray-painted over the word Simon. Also the signs saying “Abbott-proof the Senate” had been changed to read “Leb-proof the Senate”. Those signs were on Athllon Drive. They were replaced the next day and then the Rise Up Australia posters appeared. A coincidence?

We will never know

Facts just get in the way of wild speculation, I find.

Maybe the Rise Up party signs were only placed there recently in comparison to the other ones.

Maybe the Rise Up people defaced the other signs while placing thiers down.

Maybe the Rise Up signs were beaten down like the others but then they began to Rise Up

We will never know
