Word reaches us of new management taking over at Corin Forest with the big slide running from boxing day:

Corin Forest Mountain Resort will reopen on Boxing Day (26th Dec) with new management. After closing last winter due to a large rockslide on the Corin Dam Road, the timing seemed appropriate for a change.

The new management team is revitalising this iconic piece of Canberra’s outdoors.

Corin Forest holds fond memories for many Canberrans for its alpine slide, winter snow and roaring open fire in the lodge, all set amongst the picturesque mountain location and local wildlife.

High in the spectacular Tidbinbilla Mountain range, Corin is part of the territory unknown to most Canberrans. Woods Reserve, Gibraltar Falls, Square Rock, Corin Dam and Corin Forest are all situated on the Corin Dam Road, less than a one hour drive from Civic.

Corin Forest has been operating for over 25 years and has survived bushfires, floods, blizzards and everything in-between. Incoming manager Dane Liepins says any people have a special affection for Corin Forest.

“I was out driving in the mountains a few years ago and came across Corin Forest – I had totally forgotten that it existed! My Mum and Dad used to take me there when I was little and walking around there twenty or more years later it was like meeting a long lost friend.

“Looking to the future we want to preserve that wholesome experience while updating the product to fit the modern Canberran.” Mr Liepins said.

This summer Corin Forest will open the alpine slide and newly remodelled Cafe from 10am – 4pm throughout the school holidays, and for weekends and public holidays throughout the remainder of the summer season, as well as hosting private events.

Winter will see snow on the ground thanks to a new snowmaking system and Canberra families will once again be able to enjoy snow in their own backyard.

Good news to see a Canberra icon reopening. Now all we need is someone to reopen The Tower Restaurant on Black Mountain. Sadly there doesn’t seem to be anybody who wants to move in and restore it to the gold standard it was when we owned it.

A wise man advised me never to eat at a restaurant that rotates or floats.

I hope the new management turn it into something decent. I took the kids there when they were younger – they enjoyed the alpine slide (so did I) but the place was very run down and the facilities were non-existent to hopeless.

They take EFT in the cafe and you can purchase toboggan rides up there if you don’t have the cash. They are getting EFT at the ride soon. The new management are really friendly. We got there early (second party I believe), and were welcomed like old friends.

But, did you find the answers to the really important questions like, do they have butter on their hot dog rolls?
I’m not willing to drive all the way out there and find their rolls to be butterless.

Actually, as a hotdog expert, the choice of rolls and if there is enough butter makes all the difference.

I couldn’t agree more. One time when visiting magic mountain at Merimbula, I ordered a hotdog which cost $5. It came in a tip top brand butterless roll containing the dog. I managed to get some tomato sauce out of them which improved things a bit but the experience was not pleasant especially given the cost. It’s the simplest things that can go so very wrong.

If you want hotdogs, just leave ’em in the car with the windows up.

Poor taste but still lol

Buttering them is the hard part.

How will they survive when the fcukwits in government will shut the road after 1 mm of snow has fallen?

+1.

I was waiting for the dueling banjos to start.

From the reports on Corin here and elsewhere it would probably be an improvement on the place if it did.

Ah, Corin.

I think the real reviews for the place under its previous owners are even funnier: http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Review-g5565525-d591992-Reviews-Corin_Forest_Mountain_Retreat-Paddys_River_Australian_Capital_Territory.html

The words ‘grumpy man’ & ‘megaphone’ seem very common in these reviews!!

Thank the Gods, we went there earlier this year and the old bloke who I think owned/managed it, was sitting out on the deck, scowling at everyone, I was waiting for the dueling banjos to start. We had a look around then went up to the bobsled and lined up, we had done 1 ride which the kids enjoyed and the prices were ok.

Then the owner/manager he came across grumpy and didn’t seem to have any patience for his customers, especially some that didn’t have very good English and some younger ones, that were a little slow to respond to his gruff shouted commands. Quite a few people in the line were commenting about his manner. The other guy assisting with running the ride was friendly and helpful.

Alderney, did they have EFT so you don’t have to take cash?

Went to Corin Forest with the lad (Master 5) today and had a great time riding the bobsled.

It seems their efforts are being directed into the bobsled, café and getting the snow making/skiing ready for winter.

We took our own food as one can never tell with these things, been burnt too many times with crap food and things like hot dogs with no butter on the roll etc., so can’t vouch for the food, but it seems simple and I might give it a go when I get back there; as I will be soon.
