The Corinbank Festival is running from 27 February to 1 March 2009.

The first round of pre-sales sold out in just two days the other week, before there were even any announcements about the line-up.

Now the first line-up announcement has been made via a media release containing this crucial paragraph:

The first line-up announcement for Corinbank includes: Blue King Brown, Mat McHugh (The Beautiful Girls), Resin Dogs Sound System, Darren Hanlon, and The Beez from Germany. The Andi & George Band head a fantastic local line up – details coming soon.

Hi all – here’s a bit more info on the first round line-up.

Blue King Brown, Mat McHugh (The Beautiful Girls), Resin Dogs Sound System, Darren Hanlon, The Beez (Ger), The Crooked Fiddle Band, The Andi & George Band, Juke Baritone and the Swamp Dogs, Mal Webb, The Fuelers, Casual Projects, April Maze, D’Opus & Roshambo, Rubycon, Richard Perso, Daniel Champagne, Friendly Yen, Mr Fibby and the Cashews.

with more to come.

Corinbank isn’t just a multi-band gig. It’s a weekend experience. The $90 gets you a whole lot of free non-music entertainment as well – and in the Great Outdoors, something the local pub doesn’t have much of. And I quite like Darren Hanlon and Andi & George 🙂

Last year the headliners were Xavier Rudd, The Herd, Kate Miller Heidke, and Muph Platonic.

So what? Alt.Contemporary?

We’re promised “bigger and better” for this year.

I don’t think Karnivool or Dead Letter Circus fit in with the Corinbank ‘ethos’, do they?

Ahh the faux rasta sounds of Blue King Brown. Not my cup of tea, but then again it is great to have music festivals in the ACT, and that I cannot argue with. Is this festival always going to be a blues n roots type of festival? If a few bands like Dead Letter Circus or Karnivool were playing, that would chub worthy.

Actually, when hippies do ‘burnouts’ they just retire at 54/11 and move to the northern rivers.

Ah, Nambucco, you’re making me pine for the Chai Tent at Woodford. 15 days and counting…

Careful what you wish for, Overheard. “Please don’t slag off at a bunch of people who are taking the initiative to build on something that was reportedly so good the first time around” is what they were saying about Summernats twenty years ago. I hope your conscience will allow you to sleep at night twenty years hence when the Western edges of Canberra are being menaced by fire-twirling folk fans and their hippie sidekicks, running kids down on their unicycles wide eyed on a potentially lethal cocktail of herbal tea and tofu. Is that what you want? Cos that’s what’ll happen if this thing is encouraged, mark my words.

I don’t know why, but every time I see the name ‘Eyeball etc. ~’ I’m reminded of certain characters from Harry Potter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dementors#Dementors

OT, what Manageable Ann said. The acts are the cream on the top of the festival experience. The Beez (beez.de) are superb fun, Andi and George (and friends) are legendary, and (the award-winning) Blue King Brown will totally funk you up.

I seem to remember there will be 100 acts on the final line-up so there’s still another 94 to be announced. Anyone who’s not of a mind to go, enjoy whatever you choose to get up to, but please don’t slag off at a bunch of people who are taking the initiative to build on something that was reportedly so good the first time around.

Dementoris farkorfus.

It’s all taste anyway I love the local music scene and music in general, regardless of genre, I love searching out hidden gems at festivals, I love walking around making friends with people I’ve never met, I like fresh air, I think corinbank will have that and more.
But maybe we should just complain……

Eyeball into mod until such time as we see a positive, constructive comment.

I’d like to note that they’ve been an extremely marginal commenter for a long time on many issues.

I’ll support local music if there is something tangible there to support.

How the f%^ck would you know that there’s nothing local to support? How often do you go to see live music from local bands?

Why do people let their standards drop for these kinds of events just because it’s a local product?

“OK, the bands are terrible, and it costs $90….. but let’s support local music. Woohoo!”

Personally, I can’t understand that kind of mentality. I’ll support local music if there is something tangible there to support. I don’t feel like I need to support it just because of the postcode.

Well eyeball, I’m really not interested in the views of recluses on social events.

Take this as your last warning.

Fixed.

I missed out last year and I’ve been reminded all year as to how good it was.
In my opinion I don’t even care who’s playing ,although the lineup looks pretty good to me. I want to go and support a fledgling festival in my hometown, so we can get more and more of these types of things happening. Go you corinbank legends!

With a new Festival like Corinbank I think they need to do everything they can to get the name of their event out to the wider public. If that means hurling glitter in the air everytime anything even remotely exciting happens then I say GO TEAM.

also I am sure that there are some people that find the first lineup announcement super exciting

Eyeball’s right though, isn’t he? The festival organisers want your $90 early so it can ‘rest’ in their account and earn a little bit of interest, but then the ‘first lineup announcement’ is, with the best will in the world, extremely underwhelming. Andi & George? Can’t I see them in a pub for a tenner? It makes the whole thing look like a bit of a farce. By all means announce that tickets are available – the folk beardies and hippies will be buying them anyway- but don’t try and dress up the ‘announcement’ as something of an event in it’s own right- because it isn’t.

Well eyeball, we’re really not interested in the views of recluses on social events.

Take this as your last warning.

If you don’t count the wife.

But yes, I’d rather be alone with my record player than surrounded by an array of terrible bands.

Yes, you do seem like the sort of person who would have more fun on their own.

It is a shame you are not coming, Eyeball! I think you would have an awesome time.

Nah, that $90 could get me a case of Hoegaarden, and then I could spend my day listening to tone and my ears wouldn’t feel so mollested.

Eyeball seems desperately intent on having a perfectly miserable time.

Judging by this ‘first announcement’ and last years lineup I think they would be better off asking for a gold coin donation.

splutter! Now that’s just being cruel. I bet there will be clowns, a jumping castle and face painting.

and a stall offering sandals knitted from hemp.

Looks ok to me…and besides, you can’t read the “first line-up announcement” part? Suggests there’ll be more I would have though, maybe that’s just me.
