Coronial hoo-haa a-go-go

Bored as we all are of fire news there remains a certain frisson in seeing how events unfold. In my view it’s a heady mix of public ignorance and Liberal incompetence that kept the Gubmint from feeling real heat on this last time around.

Turning to recent events:

– First the Canberra Times brought news that real legal opinion (as opposed to Our Brave Leader’s angry voice) didn’t think a coronial inquiry was at all adequate to investigate a catastrophe of this sort.

-Then ABC online reported that Mr Stanhope, in his attempts to avoid what I would call a real inquiry, is going to change the law to mean whatever suits him (again) so he can have a coroner (only not the current one, or anyone who will upset him) do the business.

This is what happens when you have strong government without checks and balances kiddies.
