Costacon!

I recently received my renewal notice from Questacon and decided that I was already paying enough.

Another price rise! Why have you done this Questacon? I hope it is to pay for that utterly horrifying new desk, why would they move it so it takes longer to get to the galleries?

Happily I found a plan on my last trip to Sydney. Powerhouse membership.

It is cheaper to buy a new membership here than to renew, gives the same entry to Questacon and you can buy it online, strange that you can’t do this at the National Science centre.

Goodbye Q Club, Hello Questacon.

Canberra has so many places to visit at no cost. Sure, Questacon charges and maybe you can save a couple of bucks by joining Powerhouse. Just try visiting any NSW museum/gallery for free..not possible. Whereas Canberra…War Memorial, National Gallery, Portrait Gallery, National Library…etc etc

http://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/ is free, except for special exhibits. Similar to NGA and the Portrait gallery.

I have a Zoo membership and people look at me funny as if once you’ve seen the animals why see tham again 🙂

Aside from that if you have children or visitors they love Questacon, it’s a fun place with a first timer.

This is true.

My 2 year old has a great time at Mini Q

Agreed. Mini-Q is great for 2 – 5 year olds. Don’t get stuck there in School hols though cause you won’t be able to move (especially if it’s wet).

My 11 year old said “This place sucks” after seeing the “soon to be gone” dinosaur exhibit for the eighth time, and my two year old is too small to do anything remotely exciting there.

Your 2 yr old would enjoy Mini-Q, but will agree with you for 11 year olds.

What do you do there, anyway? I feel that’s a very valid question, as there is nothing to do there.

I don’t get along there all that often but I’ve spent way too much time watching the ball machine in the foyer, but now that it’s in the foyer you don’t need a membership for that

Aside from that if you have children or visitors they love Questacon, it’s a fun place with a first timer. Also they run various fun talks in their theatre(s) (not to be confused with standard lectures) and the galleries do change often enough

And like all memberships I’m sure if offers other benefits like discounts at their store and cafe

You obviously don’t have preschool aged children.

It’s all too old, dusty and haggard for anyone to have fun there.

A recent discussion with a an emplyee there revealed that massive budget cuts not only affect the staff, but also result in reduced cleaning and maintenance of the exhibits.

That being said, why would I want to go there more than once every three years?

You obviously have pretty lame requirements when it comes to entertainment.

I’ve still got some free passes to Questacon from what must be last century, with no expiry date. Woohoo.

I’m confused – They don’t do anything at Questacon that would warrant attending more than once every two years, why would you have a membership there?

I presume it would be to support the place. If that’s the case, why whine about how much you are paying to not go there?

Questacon freebie is not available for ACT residents with Powerhouse memberships.

Altho if you have an address in Queanbeyan (or anywhere else in NSW further than 150km from the GPO) you’re laughing!!

Woohoo also gives access to NGA, NLA and NMA members lounges and discounted entry on $$ exhibitions there!!

Hmmm now I know what to get the in-laws for Xmas.

“Free Entry – Not valid for ACT residents with Powerhouse memberships”

I will assume then that you do not reside within the ACT.

Nice idea ,but the fine print on the reciprocal benefits page of the Powerhouse membership states that the free entry to Questacon isn’t valid for ACT residents.
