Cotter Avenue plans

Actew have announced their plans for an upgrade of the Cotter Avenue recreation area.

An important aspect of the Cotter Avenue experience in the past was the original swing bridge that was destroyed in the 2003 Bushfires. As part of the Cotter Avenue upgrade, ACTEW recently submitted a Development Application to the ACT Planning and Land Authority to build a new footbridge over the Cotter River.

Mr Sullivan said: “The construction of a new footbridge will be an important part in the reinstatement of Cotter Avenue. The new bridge will link the upgraded Cotter Avenue with the Cotter Dam Discovery Trail on the other side of Cotter River, providing an incredible recreation experience. We look forward to reopening this area for the community and future generations to enjoy.”

Upgrade works will start later this year, and will form a key part of ACTEW’s rehabilitation of the Cotter Precinct as part of the Enlarged Cotter Dam project. The area will be reopened after the Enlarged Cotter Dam is completed in 2012.

Details on how to be involved in the consulation on this are on the page.

A new pub would be better so the thirsty dirt bikers can sooth there dry dusty throats.

I would call this a good use of funds to restore a pleasant family spot at minimal cost. It is totally different from the arboretum, you might as well say you oppose the installation of footpaths in sububs because the arboretum has enough already.

How about ensuring your garden is suitable for the climatic zone in which it is located?

The footpaths in my suburb have had no maintenence since they were laid 20 years ago and they are in appalling condition with no one from TAMS responding to fix them.
Maybe I should call Actew who seem to have money to burn?
Not many trees in the aboretum are suited to the climatic conditions in Canberra either but then they have unlimited resources and free water to nourish them with don’t they (as well as excess footpaths)
Next thing is we will have Petal Power demanding an exclusive bike path be built to and from Cotter.

This is excellent and will again make Cotter a pleasant weekend get away as it was before it was toasted.

I would call this unecessary expenditure; isn’t having the National Arboretum enough?
How about some cheaper water so we can “upgrade” our own gardens?

Get in the car, go out there with your family, and extract your money’s worth in calming the hell down. Walk the discovery trail.

Would never have been out that way were it not for the many mentions of it on RiotAct, and its a nice little part of the world. Any and all improvements to the parkland appreciated.

Do you have a rough guess as to what the expenditure on that footbridge would represent as a discount across all the water supplied by ACTEW? Personally I’d reckon it at about three-fifths of five-eights of buggerall.
