Cotter Dam expansion started ?!?

A couple nights ago I was kicking back with a beer infront of the TV when the latest ActewAGL ad came on. I spluttered beer across the living room as they declared the Cotter Dam expansion has started. They then declared the surveys and planning was progressing well – ROFL!

Today it seems I am to eat my words (and beer spittle) as the ABC reports the Cotter Dam extension starts. Surely Jon “aquifer” Stanhope would have made an appearance to turn the first sod?

That’d be awesome p1. Mount it on the Anzac Pde median strip!

We can buy a couple of Collins Class subs to cruise Lake Burley Griffin as well.

Actually I have been thinking of starting to get a campaign going to have one brought here when they pay off in another ten or twenty years 🙂

Kinda like Holbrook…

I’m all for securing our water supply, but it’s a shame that they’re flooding the old dam and the suspension footbridge.

As a kid growing up here, out to the Cotter was one of the cooler daytrip destinations. Especially on a hot day when you could sit just below the dam in the cascading water.

Oh right, that’s too dangerous for me now. Or I’m a terrorist. You used to be able to walk out on to the offtake tower at Bendora too, but that’s been locked up for around 10 years now.

To be fair to ACTEW and the Bulk Water Alliance partners a lot of construction work has taken place already – perhaps more than the Govt is willing to tell.

The aircraft won’t have guns either. Ours will be the first Human Rights compliant Air Force.

Negative, New Zealand has already beaten us to this milestone.

pricetag of the dam is equivalent to just two of the new Joint Strike Fighters we’re buying. Expensive, those military toys

True caf, but unless Stanhope is considering his own air force, it’s quite irrelevant. 😉

Hey, don’t go giving him any ideas…

The Year: 2012.
The location: Stanhope Airbase, on board with president Stanhope and his waiter Mr Krudd on an A380
Call Sign: STANHOPE ONE

Krudd “Mr President the plane is ready for take off”

Stanhope “Are the Joint Strike Fighters in the air”

Krudd “Yes Mr President they are, Lets me just say that it was such a great idea when you sold all that art work and got all these new planes, I can’t belive with the change how you were able to take over the country and become president”

Stanhope “Shut up you fool and get me my dinner before we take off”

Krudd “yes Mr president”

Krudd brings a plate of chicken back to President Stanhope

Stanhope “Whats this?”

Krudd “Its all we have Mr president your speacial meal is not avalable”

Stanhope “Why you little **** go get my meal, you are a **** and a ****, go **** yourself and **** my ****.

Krudd “boooo hooooo hoooooo hoooooo, why god, why…… if only I was in Australia durring the president elections, that would have been me.”

Water! Glorious water!

Oh yes, I can see it now. The Royal ACT Air Force. Led by Air Commodore Hargreaves. The planes won’t actually fly fly of course, due to design problems and unforseen budgetary constraints. The aircraft won’t have guns either. Ours will be the first Human Rights compliant Air Force.

We can buy a couple of Collins Class subs to cruise Lake Burley Griffin as well. Every time Stanhope wants a diversion he can just declare war on the Federales across the lake. We can all stand on our side and chant DUCE! DUCE! outside Stanhop’e office.

He’s quite capable of getting his own ideas.

Actually, I saw the Mayor on the news yesterday announcing the start.

“Surveys” in this sense means geological site surveys, I believe.

On a tangentially-related note, it’s interesting to consider that even the new, greatly expanded, pricetag of the dam is equivalent to just two of the new Joint Strike Fighters we’re buying. Expensive, those military toys.

Well, if the photo in today’s Canberra Times is anything to go by, then yes he was there.

What I find interesting is that the head of ACTEW has put head on the chopping block if it doesn’t come in on time and on budget?

What?? And be held responsible!!!
