Cotter to close

Thumper 5 January 2010 9

The ABC is reporting that the Cotter recreational area has been closed to the public to allow for the Cotter Dam expansion.

It is not expected to open again until late 2011 although the nearby Casuarina Sands parkland has been upgraded to provide an alternative recreational area.

Who knows, maybe we’ll get a new Cotter Pub?

If ACTEW and the Bulk Water Alliance can spend hundred’s of thousands of dollars on advertising campaigns, you’d think that they could at least invest money into building a decent pub out there again.

Whilst they’re at it, why not let powered boats onto Googong Dam and Lake Burley Griffin?

Not in the near or distant future I think.

Didn’t mind dropping in on the park but didn’t use those facilities when camping anyhow, so that’s good news for sure.

Casuarina Sands was such a popular spot when I was growing up, hope it can keep up these days.

Camping not affected, thankfully :). Nor is anything else in the Cotter precinct apart from the side road where the playgrounds, bbqs etc are.

Casuarina Sands is due to re-open on Saturday.

I doubt very much if a new pub will ever be built, though saying that it could be a feasible business proposition in say 10 years time when new Molongolo development has started. There is talk of a proposal to build a licenced club at Stromlo Forest Park some time in the future.

S-S-A – I have only driven past, Casuarina was still closed due to works, but it looks pretty good with covered BBQs and playground etc. There may even be some water to swim in LOL.

Hells Bells – No, camping area still open.

Does this affect camping at the Cotter?

The Actew propaganda machine has spent what a full year now blabbing on about how they are going to rejuvenate the Cotter precinct. Yet the actual core of it is being taken off line for TWO YEARS?

Has anyone checked out Casuarina Sands yet? What has been put in during the “upgrade”? Not much shade down there, and is there a playground?

From what I can gather, everything downstream of the bridge at the old pub site will still be open so we might switch our allegiences to the Cotter Bend area.

What a great idea: a pub in a dam wall!
