I drove past the accident scene not long after it happened and I’m fascinated to know what/how it happened. The truck was lying on it’s side in the lane closest to the centre traffic island on the Giralng side of the Barton Highway with the prime mover facing up hill toward toward South Canberra and the trailers (still attached to PM) facing Hall. See pic below from Canberra Times

So maybe the truck was coming from Hall direction and it was coming too fast for the roundabout (brake fail maybe or perhaps driver fatigue?) and then mounted the traffic island and then tipped over?

It surely wouldn’t of been coming along William Slim Dr and suddenly tried to turn right going the wrong way through the roundabout and toward oncoming traffic on the Barton Hwy, and I couldn’t see how a B-double could do a 180 degree turn at the roundabout if it were coming toward Hall.

I hope emergency services scrambled to fix the problem.

Road was finally reopened about 6am this morning.

The king’s horses and king’s men were unavailable for comment.
