Crane on Mt Taylor

crane

Whilst driving home this afternoon I noticed a large crane on the top of Mt Taylor. Does anybody know why it is there and what it is doing? At first I thought it might have been erecting a new monument or else doing some work on the National Transmission Station. If anybody knows for sure could they please enlighten us?

The thing I can’t understand is how they got the crane up there in the first place, it is only a rough dirt fire trail going up there with some very steep grades and hairpin turns.

The track has been sealed on the steepest sections, so provided you can get around the tightest curve it’s probably not too hard.

Hmm, the mystery deepens. Just went for a walk up Mt Taylor and there is no sign of any kind of new work. The only thing I can think of is that they were installing something on the transmission tower.

Even when they were building the transmission station way back when, there were never any cranes up there, only 4WDs and utes.

They’re building the new docking station for the Sky Whale 😛

Oh the huge mammaries!

I had to scour my brain for my RiotACT password so I could log in to applaud this fantastic comment! Well done sir!

Thankyou, but it’s not mine. I saw it here last year when Skywhale first appeared and thought with the “docking tower” at Mt Taylor it was time for a re-run.

Instead of docking station, perhaps some sort of supportive harness would be more apt. Something with straps and clips that no mere mortal man can figure out but only on a much larger scale 😛

Could it just possibly possibly ! be our first wind turbine !!
After all why should our neighbours in NSW have all the glory. Locals ere could then save the run out to Lake George.

Lovely, a moving sculpture. That would be nice.

“A moving sculpture with a huge carbon footprint” is a perfect description for a wind turbine.

Yes I know, coal powered power stations are so much better looking, with the added benefit of adding that lovely bouquet to the air. I smell it every time I drive through the Hunter Valley. Forget the bouquet of the local wines; just smell the air.

At least a coal fired power station produces power when the wind isn’t blowing. It’s like an insurance policy; it’s there when you need it.
I used to drive weekly on the New England Highway alongside the Lidell power stations and I never once could smell the (hardly visible) smoke and “carbon pollution” that comes out of the stacks.
It’s good that you can establish a fantasy about wind turbines as something beautiful though, as all I see is a huge con job.

I am wondering how real your opinions are. No matter the evidence you are given by people you continue to deny and peddle the same line. Even when I say I can smell the coal powered stations you argue against this and deny they smell. I first noticed the smell in the area years ago when I wasn’t even aware of power stations there. It was the obvious smell that alerted me to their presence, as I was surprised to smell the odour in what I thought, until then, was clean country air. If someone says they don’t find wind turbines ugly you say they are. No matter the evidence people present to you about climate change you say you are not convinced and basically the evidence is nonsense. I’m wondering if you really have these opinions, or rather have adopted them as a sure fire way to garnish responses from people. I’m learning how predictable your answers will be. Others have, it appears from comments, already come to that conclusion, but I’m new here and still learning. Still I don’t expect anything but a denial to my comments. That’s what I predict. As I said, you are too predictable. Are you for real?

That’s the best suggestion yet unless someone suggests it is a mount for a laser harpoon gun to down the Sky Whale.

It is called “Quisquiliae”

LOL.

It is an $800-000.00 Stanhope-ian art installation by a “local” artist from Brisbane that we wouldnt understand due to our philistinery that borderlines on redneckedness.

It is called “Quisquiliae”

It symbolises the raising of our cultural and financial awareness regarding public monies and how they should be spent.

They’re moving Mt Taylor to Gungahlin, they think its going to look good next to the light rail.

They’re preparing for the budget, Hockey will be forced to bungy jump as payback…

If they sold raffle tickets and the winner could set the length of the bungee, the national debt would be wiped out by revenue from ticket sales…

A disgruntled machine operator from Majura Rd perhaps?

More public art?
A Corbell solar collector?
New trig station?
