The Australian National University has announced Dr Ken Henry (formerly of Treasury) is going to be the go-to guy for public policy at ANU:

In a major new boost to ANU’s longstanding role in national public policy research, teaching and outreach, Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Young announced today that a renamed and expanded Crawford School of Public Policy would become the ANU ‘gateway’ to public policy, on the same model as Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

Dr Ken Henry will be appointed as part time Executive Chair of the associated Institute of Public Policy, which will bring together, under the new Crawford School banner, a number of new and existing programs designed not only to advance the University’s traditional research, teaching and outreach roles, but to significantly enhance the professional development of the Australian Public Service and public sector more generally.

Building works now under way will bring together in a single physical precinct the former Crawford School of Economics and Government; the recently established National Security College, HC Coombs Policy Forum and Sir Roland Wilson Foundation; ANZSOG at ANU; and a major new Public Policy Fellows Program drawing on wider ANU and public sector expertise. The Australian Centre on China in the World now commencing construction will also be part of the new public policy structure.

Speaking at the launch Professor Young said:

“I am delighted that Dr Henry will join us from mid-year in his role as Executive Chair of the new Institute. He brings significant credibility in both academic circles and the Australian Public Service (APS) to this position. Along with Dr Ian Watt, Dr Don Russell and Professor Allan Fels (the external members of the new ANU Public Policy Advisory Board to be established to guide the new arrangements) he will bring the APS and ANU closer together, and assist ANU in becoming a major international player in public policy.”

So the Crawford School of Economics and Government expands and the School of Music contracts. How unbearably predictable and super-sad. And I wonder how many $$ painting Mr Henry will have adorning his office, and how many female international students he will have as support staff. Actually more like receipts of all his big spends on office wall. Academia as a business. How sickening.

Maybe they can solve The Mystery of the Whinging Arts Students.

OMG. Ken Henry, Ian Watt, Allan Fels and Don Russell?! Holy crap. I’d love to see what they’ll come up with. If they get them all together, they could brew up something truly formidable. And possibly a bit weird.
