Attorney-General, Simon Corbell, has welcomed new figures showing an overall 9% decrease in reported offences in the past financial year.

Mr Corbell tabled the June 2014 ACT Criminal Justice Statistical Profile in the Legislative Assembly today.

“I’m pleased that decreases are reported in property crime with robbery, extortion and related offences down 23%, property damage and environmental pollution down 23%, motor vehicle theft down 14% and burglary, break and enter down 8%,” Mr Corbell said.

Decreases were also reported for sexual assaults and related offences, down15%, and assaults, down 11%.

“These strong results are further supported by the performance against the targets set by the government in the ACT Property Crime and Reduction Strategy 2012-2015. The strategy’s targets are to reduce, from a 2010 baseline, reported ACT burglary crime by a further 10% and motor vehicle theft by a further 20% by 31 December 2015,” Mr Corbell said.

“Results from the ABS – Recorded Crime Victims Australia 2013 publication report show reductions in burglaries (51.2%) and motor vehicle theft (49.3%) are both nearly 50% below the 2010 baseline.”

“While we still have more work to do, the results reported in the June 2014 ACT Criminal Justice Statistical Profile demonstrates this government’s continued commitment to reducing crime and increasing community safety.”

HOLY STATISTICAL ANOMALY, BATMAN!

Either Corbell should take credit for NSW crime going down too, or he should admit the Strategy is bull.

I want to know the figures on people who didn’t bother reporting a crime because they know nothing will be done about it.

Here. Downsides: only comes out once a year and if victims lie to the ABS then they still wont show up.

very likely about the same as previous years, therefore the title works. unless you have data for a surge in lethargy?
