ACT Policing has continued to experience a decline in offence reports according to the latest quarterly crime statistics for 2014, in which an eight per cent decrease was recorded across the ACT.

Statistics posted to the latest ACT Policing CrimeStatistics webpage show the Inner South experienced the greatest decline with a drop in crime of 15.8 per cent, followed by Weston Creek and Belconnen with declines of 12 per cent and 11.3 per cent respectively, when comparing the previous 12 months to the same period in 2013.

Ministerial, Policy and Performance Station Sergeant Brett Booth said the quarterly crime statistics also demonstrate significant decreases in the reported offences of sexual assault and property damage. However, there was an increase in reports of offences against a person and other offences.

“These results build on the performance of the 2013–14 financial year, with the ACT Policing Annual Report confirming the lowest rate of property offences in the ACT for more than 10 years,” Station Sergeant Booth said.

“While we’ve enjoyed a positive result over the last year, it’s important to remember that crime is cyclical, and police must remain ready to adapt our resources, techniques and intelligence-gathering in order to meet any new challenges which arise in the future.”

The stats are down, but the actual crime isn’t.

Reports are only down because people are sick of banging their heads against a wall with nothing being done either by ACT Police or the judicial system. We report a crime and either nothing gets done, or the criminal gets a walk in the park from our judges.

This is RUBBISH!

You can wash anything out if you aggregate the data enough.

In my suburb, stats for Q3 2014 are 400% higher than for Q3 2013 for these offences: [Assault + Burglary + Theft + Property damage]. In fact, Q3 2014 had as many of these offences as Q1 and Q2 did combined. It was the fifth worst quarter going back to January 2008 (that’s 27 quarters).

And the stat for ‘other offences’ for Q3 2014 is the third highest on record.

But I don’t just blame ACT Police. If ORS effectively regulated bars and clubs in Civic, then the cops would spend much less time mopping up after serious assaults fuelled by alcohol. And if the ACT bench gave out more custodials to repeat offenders, there’d be less repeat offences (Hope you’re enjoying your retirement Higgins, now if we can just pension off Refshauge). And if the AMC had been built bigger, as it was supposed to be…

Failure all round, fellas. Good job.
