ACT Policing has continued to experience a decline in offence reports according to the latest quarterly crime statistics for 2014, in which an eight per cent decrease was recorded across the ACT.
Statistics posted to the latest ACT Policing CrimeStatistics webpage show the Inner South experienced the greatest decline with a drop in crime of 15.8 per cent, followed by Weston Creek and Belconnen with declines of 12 per cent and 11.3 per cent respectively, when comparing the previous 12 months to the same period in 2013.
Ministerial, Policy and Performance Station Sergeant Brett Booth said the quarterly crime statistics also demonstrate significant decreases in the reported offences of sexual assault and property damage. However, there was an increase in reports of offences against a person and other offences.
“These results build on the performance of the 2013–14 financial year, with the ACT Policing Annual Report confirming the lowest rate of property offences in the ACT for more than 10 years,” Station Sergeant Booth said.
“While we’ve enjoyed a positive result over the last year, it’s important to remember that crime is cyclical, and police must remain ready to adapt our resources, techniques and intelligence-gathering in order to meet any new challenges which arise in the future.”
