Hi, has anyone had their Curtains done lately, at a good price and good quality? Do Firths of Yass, or any other competitive regional area companies still exist – as per 2011 curtains review on here ? Thanks for any useful updates you have.

Clear comfort is a massive rip off, but great idea. plastic film is used all over N America and works realy well. I use it on my windows in canberra and its amazing how well it works. The aust versions will cost a few hundred dollars to do your whole house…. or you can spend about $30 buying from UK or korea. Go to EBAY and search for window insulation or double glazing film. Its kinds like large sheets of plastic wrap. You put double sided tape up, then the plastic film, then use a hairdrier to shrink it down airight. Easy peasy and super cheap.

Another option is to get the pre-hemmed fabric from spotlight. They have curtain material in different lengths, with the curtain tabs etc already sewn into the top. You just measure the width you need (taking into account you need curtains wider than teh actual window. Then you put your own rings into the tabs already on the back and hang up.

I also used the plastic wrap on the windows in a previous house and can recommend it. Very simple to attach, as long as the windows have enough depth in the frames. Some windows don’t unfortunately. My present house has double glazing and honey-combed blinds.

I have got curtains from this site called Curtains4 Australia and they were excellent and cheap. It is a totally Engrish site (just for bringing your windows more surprises!) but they are really well made and give so much choice. You have to measure yourself, if you go the custom made option, so read the ‘how to measure’ guide carefully.

Thanks all – was away, and just able to check these now – yes, I’d meant curtains being made, all your ideas look useful, and I’ll check them out.

“Had their curtains done” sounds like you want your existing curtains cleaned, but then you link to a previous thread about getting new curtains installed. Perhaps you’d like to clarify?

I’ve previously recommended Colour Curtains – 6257 3717. A recent quote we got from Les was 45% below the quote from another business. Having used him previously we know that the quality is still high, but being a small operator keeps his overheads very low. He has superb attention to detail too.

I don’t have curtains, as I’m not fond of the look. I use insulated blinds instead. They are honeycombed and fold up to a small size allowing lots of light and sunlight into my rooms during the day. Plus it’s nice to have a view, even if it’s only the side view. Have you considered these?
Here are he blinds I am talking about: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=honeycomb+blinds&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=Jl-3U8mECcrk8AWH8YHgDA&ved=0CEYQsAQ&biw=1398&bih=888

Hi,
I have just opened a business in Canberra with my family. We would love to help you out. My mum lives in Canberra and when she went to get her curtains replaced we saw a massive hole in well priced and good quality window furnishings. We have been in the industry for almost 10 years. Give me a call on 6156 4690 or have a look at our website to get more of an idea of what we are about http://www.chadwickdesigns.com.au
Hope to hear from you soon
Belle Chadwick

Why don’t you try this instead?

We have had this on our windows for 15 years and it works extremely well.
