Hello Rioters,

My 12 year old would like a “just for fun” dance class that she could join.

Most of the dance places around the way seem to require uniforms or commitment to end of year performances or are for kids that attend term in and out.

Are there any classes that are suitable for a kid who just wants to go and have fun and learn a few (modern type) dance moves for a term without having to commit to expensive performances or costumes?

We are on the Southside/ Tuggeranong. Thanks

Hi, canberra school of bollywood provides dance classes in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
No uniforms or exams and every child gets a chance to take part in our annual concert or they can wish not to.
We offer classes from 3 years old around Canberra. Visit us on http://www.canberrabollywood.com.au

Our 3 kids all went to Fresh Funk at Tuggeranong Arts Centre for varying lengths of time, and all hugely enjoyed it. Yes, it’s regular, and yes there’s an end of term performance, but it was a lot of fun, and one of the very few dance classes whose end of term show I’ve enjoyed sitting through!

See their website for info.

My kids used to attend Street Funk and Hip Hop at Dynamic Dance Studios at Mitchell. It wasn’t troupe, and there were no uniforms. While there was an end of year concert, it was OK if the kids couldn’t’ make it. It’s been a couple of years since the kids were there, but it could still be worth checkin gout.

I’ve taken Mr 6 to Dance Kids programs before: http://www.dancekids.com.au/

Pole dancing classes claim they are kid friendly.

I’d suggest trying out a few and seeing what you kid likes, the first lesson is usually free anyway. That is how they get you hooked, its just like dance crack.

You could try ‘Zumbatomic’ – Zumba specifically for the little ones. No commitment or costumes required. A few Canberra dance studios offer it in addition to regular Zumba classes.
