The National Museum has a big exhibition opening today looking at Charles Darwin and how his ideas changed the world.

Darwin illuminates the life of the iconic naturalist, geologist, and thinker, whose extraordinary ideas on evolution by natural selection were a critical turning point for science and culture and continue to be revolutionary more than a century after the publication of On the Origin of Species (1859).

Through artefacts, documents, film, interactive media, live animals and plants, as well as Darwin’s own personal items, this landmark international exhibition offers visitors a unique glimpse into Darwin’s intellectual and personal world and the experiences that first led him to formulate his groundbreaking theories.

It’s running from today to 29 March 2009.

Cool thanks. I have heard a bit about him. I’ll have to check out some of his work.

> Hahaha that quote is gold. Who said that?

It’s the late, great Bill Hicks. He said plenty on the subject. 🙂

Hahaha…yeah! And to once again quote my favourite dead guy…

“These people actually believe the world is 12 thousand years old. Swear to God! Based on what? I asked them. “Well, we looked at all the people in the Bible, and we added them up all the way back to Adam and Eve, their ages – 12 thousand years.” Well, how f**king scientific! Okay. I didn’t know that you’d gone to so much trouble there. That’s good.”

hee hee. Intelligunt desine I love those people.

What you evolution-and-gravity agenda pseudo-scientists need to realize is that ‘evolution’, ‘gravity waves’ and ‘prior existence in the fossil record’ are just secular words for “intelligent design”, “intelligent falling”, and “God can do whatever the hell He wants”.

>How does this relate to indigenous Australians and the wrong doings of white Australians? Doesn’t every exhibition at the National Museum have to have some sort of relation to the stolen generation?

Man walked with dinosaurs, and were all descended from the same two ancestors.

Not to mention that if you do go, Palin will personally fly here in a helicopter and shoot you down like a Moose.

Not much to do with the Stolen Generation, but the ideologies of social darwinism were the driving force of most of the policies in Aboriginal relations that preceded the Stolen Generations, so nonetheless this exhibition has a connection with race relations.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

How does this relate to indigenous Australians and the wrong doings of white Australians? Doesn’t every exhibition at the National Museum have to have some sort of relation to the stolen generation?
