The last few years have been crazy hard on many businesses in the ACT (RiotACT included – which you may have noticed has laid off all staff while we find new financial backers) but word reaches us this morning that well known IT reseller DataFlex has also been struggling and has called in administrators from RSM Bird Cameron after 27 years in business. DataFlex supply IT services to just about every government department in Canberra.

More details and comments from RSM Birds Frank Lo Pilato, and DataFlex’s founder long standing and CEO can be found on this article on CRN.

Dataflex employ 38 staff and may leave a several hundred thousand dollar hole in creditors pockets.

Very true. Unfortunately, staff always come last. This needs to be changed, so all the staff get what they’re owed first, with other creditors coming second (as they can “write off” the losses made).

Just think of the staff and the fact that they too will be creditors for entitlements. Not a good thing to go through and the current jobs market isn’t going to make their current situation any better. Regardless of what the company did, there are people who now have to find work quickly, along with countless others as other businesses go out the same way. Don’t tar all the staff with the same brush. This situation is soul destroying for people who were going to work the day before without this hanging over their heads.

And it’s the last thing we have heard from them….I suspect now that to make things look better they have left a few things off their debtors ledger as we are still yet to see anything from the administrators

What I don’t understand is how do you manage (with only around 40 staff nationwide) to go broke all of the sudden, being multi-million dollars company? And not having enough to pay entitlements?

Agree, it’s the contractors who will suffer the most.

Those bastards have always been late payers.

The proposed JV between Dataflex and Tech Mahindra has been approved by the Chaiman and is right to proceed.

I will remain as the Managing Director of Dataflex reporting to a joint Tech Mahindra/Dataflex Board.

Tech Mahindra pulled out, info is very outdated. They’re looking for new buyers.

I heard second hand that they haven’t won any substantial new business for a while, thus collapsing their forward pipeline. If this is true, there must be a reason. Federal government is normally fairly consistent about re-using suppliers it is happy with.

Anyone know more?

And the poor Contractors will be the last to get any leftover scraps.

Personal gripe….”ABN numbers”

Those bastards have always been late payers.

Finally I have some good news.

The proposed JV between Dataflex and Tech Mahindra has been approved by the Chaiman and is right to proceed.

The announcement is not yet public and as such I appreciate your confidentiality.

Over the next few days I will be able to give details with regard to payment of outstanding monies.

The company structure of Dataflex will effectively remain the same with regard to ABN numbers etc. I will remain as the Managing Director of Dataflex reporting to a joint Tech Mahindra/Dataflex Board.

I very much appreciate the support you have afforded to Dataflex over these testing times.

This came a month ago….pay your bills Brian.

Well perhaps someone who’s in the know can give us the lowdown?
