Date City - May Edition

Well it has been a busy month! Not only has there been a new date with a new fella, there has been my opinions on Andrew Bolt, travel planning for the US and Canada and a birthday.

On celebrating my 24th birthday I spent a great night with friends out on the waters of Lake Burley Griffin. It included talk of boys, babies and the inevitable ‘are you seeing someone special?’ Being the only single girl in my close knit group of girlfriends I am presented with this question every get together.

Alas, at the moment I’m not seeing someone special but did go on an exceptionally fun date. This particular bloke works in the Navy, has travelled to many different countries and would be likened to your typical Aussie bloke. Given I’ve been on a few first dates this year I wanted to do something different to the norm and suggested going to see a Canberra Roller Derby game. Honestly, one of the best dates I’ve ever been on. Not only was it entertaining and gave fodder for lots of conversation, it also created some friendly competition between us (choosing to barrack for opposite teams).

When it comes to planning a date, I would heavily suggest on thinking outside the box. Not only does it create a really fun atmosphere, it makes your date feel a lot less like a job interview and a lot more like something you would do with a good friend. In between slandering each other’s teams we asked the usual first date questions and had a good chance to get to know each other.

Things did not progress with the Navy guy, but I haven’t had much time to think about it and perhaps at the ripe old age of 24 I shouldn’t be looking to settle down. Instead I’m looking towards the bigger picture, which in just over a week will include a trip through the USA and Canada. Not only am I excited at the prospect of going overseas but it’s my very first time travelling out of our big beautiful country.

During my travels I’ll happily be blogging along about life on Contiki, which you can probably guess will contain a lot of alcohol, adventures and possible nudity. Although one Twitter follower has given me some slight hope, mentioning that he met his current wife on a Contiki tour. Seems like a bit of a modern day fairytale and totally adorable. However other friends have mentioned that Contiki is a mass orgy through various countries.

I’m going on this tour with a girlfriend who is in a relationship, so hopefully she’ll be a good influence on me and keep me in line or she’ll be holding my hair back as I puke and possibly cry about some bloke. Either way, I’m very excited for some overseas adventures!

Next time you hear from me, hopefully I’ll be perched in a sunny spot in Central Park, laptop open and Starbucks in hand!

Will definitely be blogging every couple of days 🙂

Cool, keep your blog updated with the trip, i’m pretty interested in it because i’m seriously considering doing a similar trip, and i’m in the same situation as you (and I don’t really want to sign up to twitter)
