David Gazard and his automated phone calls

So, just got a call from an automated call service, which it turns out belongs to David Gazard (Liberal in Eden-Monaro). 30 seconds of blabbing halfway through dinner with no opportunity to actually talk to him (or a staffer).

Pretty ordinary effort, I reckon. Has anyone else had this? Thoughts?

[ED – Gazard has spent a lot of time in the USA]

I just want to concur with Davie. Andrew has been doing a lot of community events and our household has received 3 separate pieces of material from him and the Labor Party. He’s working as hard as possible with a very limited amount of money and I think he’s doing a great job with the people that I’ve seen him talk to (at Gungahlin and Belconnen markets for example).

If you want to put someone last in Fraser then put the Liberal candidate last and put Gary Humphries last on the Senate ticket. The ACT Liberals have stood silent over the past 5 weeks while Tony Abbott has trashed Canberra from East to West coast. Abbot’s promise to cut 12,000 public sector jobs is just a blatant stunt to appeal to voters in other places who don’t understand that those public servants actually deliver services and the vast majority of them work just as hard as everybody else. Most of them also have families who play a big part in our local community. 12,000 public sector job cuts will send Canberra into another recession, just like the 30,000 job cuts the Libs made in 96-2000. I’ve spoken to tradies who know that if the public sector is cut in Canberra then their business will take a dive as well. It’s not rocket science. Even the ACT Chamber of Commerce and Canberra Business Council are critical of this Liberal Party promise to cut 12,000 jobs.

Yes, no surprises, I am a life-long Labor voter. Hey Buzz2600, what suburb do you live in?

@Buzz3600,

Having volunteered on the campaign trail with Andrew I can attest that he certainly hasn’t been taking anyone for granted. If however you are particularly eager to get a piece of paper to stuff in your rubbish bin when you get home then I’d advise you to visit some shopping centres in Belconnen, Gungahlin, and North Canberra on Saturday morning.

ED’s right – thats a classic US-style approach … but I’m jealous!

I’m still waiting to receive something! anything! from any of the candidates! I know, I know, Fraser is a very safe Labor seat so I shouldn’t have any expectations. No flowers, no kisses or pork – no nothing.

Andrew Leigh is taking us all for granted, me thinks. Indra Esguerra and Quintin Hedges-Phillips are looking more and more interesting. James Milligan might even get a look in, if nothing happens soon.

I always vote below the line & Andrew is coming last on my ballot at the moment.

Andrew Leigh is a House of Representative candidate. How exactly do you vote below the line for the House of Reps?

And, do we really want out letter boxes jam-packed with paper from candidates? It’s all online these days my dears. (Otherwise, look in The Chronicle.)

I haven’t even heard of Andrew Leigh actually campaigning in Belconnen. Not even any junk mail in their mailboxes.

I just wish these kind of things came to me at work, where I could simply forward the call to his office. Since they seem to come after hours, they’ll get it on their answering machine in the morning.

I just wish I lived in his electorate so I could put him last. Seriously, would an automated phone call convince anyone to vote for a candidate???
