The Kicks Entertainment team (Foreshore, Warehouse etc) have announced they’re bringing the big, big name of David Guetta to Canberra to play Stage88 in Commonwealth Park.

4th of May see’s Canberra play host to the world’s biggest music star David Guetta, brought to you by Canberra’s hit music station, 104.7 and Kicks Entertainment.

With in excess of 25 million fans on Facebook and over half a billion views on YouTube, multiple Grammy Award Winner David Guetta is one of the most watched people on the planet. His latest album ‘Nothing But The Beat’ has surpassed 1.4 million sales in just over 18 weeks, including a staggering 6 million single sales. This comes as little surprise when it includes hits such as ‘Turn Me On’ (feat Nicky Minaj) ‘Little Bad Girl’ (feat. Taio Cruz & Ludacris),’Titanium’ (feat. Sia), Sweat (feat Snoop Dogg) and ‘Without You’ (Feat.Usher).

In addition to selling more than 5 million albums worldwide since his 2001 debut, Guetta produced Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling”, the highest-selling digital release in music history.

Joining David Guetta at Stage 88 in May, are Bombs Away, Timomatic and local hero’s Jared de Veer and Rawson.

If David Guetta is a mystery to you, he’s number 143 on Things Bogans Like.

Here’s a sample:

Depends on the DJ. Quite a few do actually make music as well. If Davids’ performance is anything like the others “DJs” I have seen, it will be more like a dance party than a concert and he may play both his own and other artists music.

And just because they use computers and keyboards to make their music doesn’t means they are not musicians.

Pretty much every DJ that makes it internationally is also a producer/writer/composer/whatever you want to call it. You can’t get big these days just being a DJ, and more and more the term (DJ) is being used to describe someone who produces/composes/djs, and even people who don’t DJ (Deadmau5/Daft Punk)

I always get the impression that the old farts that post on here about how they’ve never heard of so and so, are also about the last that you’d get going to a music festival anyway. They might consider a seated ticket at Credence Clearwater, or Elton John, but nothing new or not hackneyed.

I dont know. Im a pretty hep cat. Im up with the latest trends like you kids with your mop tops and Dave Clark 5.

DJs are not musicians. They just play stuff that musicians created.

Just explaining to the older generation… Guetta is a composer of electronic music but the kids call composers “producers” now, probably because “composer”sounds a bit old schooley and also because the guy who cleaned up, mixed, added backing tracks, etc, is more talented these days than the Wynter Gordon or some other stripper who looks good in a music video, so gradually morphed into what Guetta does.

If you like disco pop (and I do) them this is great news. I tend to boycott Kicks events though because I’m not paying top dollar to pretend their events are raves, they usually trend to have something for everyone meaning everyone gets bored for a while and I object to corporations using public space in that way.

Imagine if we could sacrifice David Guetta to raise the ghost of Freddie Mercury to play this gig?

Now that I’d pay good money to see!

My 17 year old daughter is convinced that there is no god because no reasonable deity would have taken Bob Marley and left us with Justin Beiber. I know nothing about Mr Guetta, but I suspect the Mercury/Guetta comparison is analogous.

I’m with Jim Jones et al. Who the hell is David Guetta?

You probably need to check the dictionary Thumper, I think you nwill find a musician is one who makes music, be that playing or writing. I have certainly seen people that can play a turntable.

Right at the moment this guy could sell out madison square garden 5 nights running or pull 50,000 to hyde park in london, it may not be your cup of tea but kudos to the orgasnisers for getting him, just dont go if you dont like it.

No, no. You said, and I quote He’s a producer mate. In case you’re wondering, that means he writes music that other people sing over.

You said he was a producer. Producers are not writers. Writers are writers. Simple as that. By your reckoning George Martin wrote all the Beatles tracks, after all, he produced them. Of course, Phil Spectre produced some later stuff, so he should also get a writing credit.

By the way, Alan Parsons engineered some of the tracks as well.

Musicians play music, not regurgitate the recordings of others. DJs regurgitate the music of others. A turntable is not a musical instrument, well, not the last time I looked.

I don’t give a stuff about this guy. At no point did I criticise him or what he does. Good on him, not my scene, but so what.

I think you may need to get into the music business or a studio a bit more to understand some terms before you go mouthing off.

haha, it wasn’t me, I was just butting in.

Why so serious ? it’s just music, it doesn’t have any rules……..open your ears and there is 30 years of fabulous computer based music out there for your enjoyment. Recommend you start with bands like Stanton Warriors, A-skillz and krafty kuts, it has a soull kind of groove. You might want to stay away from dubstep early on as that stuff is really hard to get.

Imagine if we could sacrifice David Guetta to raise the ghost of Freddie Mercury to play this gig?

Now that I’d pay good money to see!

David Guetta is HUGE. EVERYONE under 25 knows who David Guetta is. Itd be like saying in 1980: Freddy Mercury? Who’s that?

Incredible to get him to Canberra considering every other big name skips us.

Didnt like Freddie Mercury either.

This comment hurt me – really did.

Calling DJs “artists”? You’re not serious? That’d be like calling rappers “musicians”.

There already is such a site. It’s the American blog that the Things Bogans Like site is modelled off.

http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/

The irony of it is that David Guetta is loved by all the kids yet he’s 44 years old, a most uncool age to someone who’s just out of their teens. The equivalent is Michael Buble being loved by oldies.

I’m a bit confused about that bogan list;

They like cheap petrol, low interest rates, going to the gym, australian made, australian television and news, self help books and diets, post-christmas sales, so the like to save money, residential property investment, freedom of speech, australian starts, wine tours, australian football, they like being tradies and mineworkers, tax refunds and bashing hippies…

TBL should be renamed “Mainstream things that lefties and their superiority complexes don’t agree with”.

Come to it, someone needs to start a “Things liberals like and want to force you to like” website. Priuses or small Euro diesels. Public education. Acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land at every and any opportunity. Union involvement in labour markets. Higher taxes on the rich and lower taxes on themselves. Seriously, there’s enough material there for years of weekly updates.

Been to last 3 BDOs, last 4 Homebake’s

David Guetta is shit. Actually he’s not shit, he spins other people’s shit.

DJs are not musicians. No more than the people who are contracted to spin other people’s music at Blue Light Discos.

Get in a RATM moshpit, there’s some music right there

My goodness, that press release is perfectly fine and accurate and David Guetta is as far from bogan as you can get.

Congratulations to the organisers (I will be getting my two oldest tickets).

Some people would whinge if they won lotto……

People most certainly did know who Freddie Mercury was in 1980. This Guetta bloke isn’t a musician for starters. He is a DJ, end of story.

David Who-etta?
.

That’s what I thought this time last year. But after signing with Anytime Fitness and listening to his clips being played over and over on V Hits I now know everything about Mr Guetta, Lady Gaga, Rhianna, Hilltop Hoods, Foster the People and all the other performers on the current hit parade.

Seriously, they are going to claim he is ‘the worlds biggest music star’? In whose books? To use their metric of ‘multiple Grammy Awards (two to be exact) lets see how he stacks up to current artists.

U2 – 22
Beyonce -16
Alicia Keys – 14
Eminem – 13
Jay-Z – 13
Foo Fighters, Outcast, Black Eyed Peas – 6

So he is far from the most successful on that scale. Now on the most watched front. I can say that I get quite a lot of music press and check more than a fair share of music sites. I can’t recall when I last saw featured prominently on any of them until today. I have seen little stories, but nowhere near the likes of Gaga and Katy Perry.

Since the rest of the press release is just made up rubbish I am not going to even bother checking if the record sales are correct.

I have nothing against the guy. It is not my type of music, but he is awesome at what he does. I am just sick of Kicks Entertainment making shi!t up to suit themselves whenever they need to make an announcement. All theu had to say was ‘David Guetta is coming to play Stage 88 on 4th May’ and the tickets would have flown out the door, no need to make up a bunch of rubbish.

Surely you all know the song ‘Memories’ that he did with Kid Cudi? You know, with the naked (female) film crew in the back ground?

As for him being on the bogan list, WTF?! Chisel or a bit of Meatloaf maybe but how the hell did David Guetta get on there!

I’m pretty impressed he’s coming to Canberra too.

Didnt like Freddie Mercury either. Its become compulsory to like certain DJs (why are they called artists?) if you are a certain age? Or is this some sort of passive aggressive peer pressure at work?

David Who-etta?
Whom is the promoter that seems to have all of these venues stitched up and supplies clowns from the tv singing competition shows? They have some x factor has-been headlining the beer and meat on a stick fest, some other clowns at the Sthn X club, both from those silly no-talent shows.
I feel qualified to comment as I am a mullet wearing bogan and proud of it. I also regularly venture out of the house to see live music and even play it myself on occasion.
A couple of years ago Dragon were on at Stage 88 and they were as good as a band can get. Cassie Davies or whatever her name was, an ex Aust Idol or similar followed and she was awful. Reading lyric from a laptop sitting on a stool. I wonder what ever happened to her.. no I don’t. Good riddance.
Anyway, should be cool to catch Katie Noonan tonight. She can sing and the Captains can play a bit too.

I’m over 25 and I know who he is. I just don’t think his music is that good, or memorable.

If David Guetta IS a mystery to you, then you’re too old!!!
He is amazing and very talented!

Not really that incredible when you think that at the last 2 Foreshores the 2 other biggest DJs in the dance music world have also played here 🙂

Maybe they’ll try putting on some talent one year.

I watched a bit more than 10 seconds… I feel physically ill…..

Kicks Entertainment really should learn how apostrophes work if they’re going to put out media releases.

TBL’s numbering system is chronological, not a rating scale. Although if there were a rated list, Guetta’s global dance/pop music dominance would put him towards the pointy end. He’s remixed or produced a staggering number of hit songs in the past couple of years.

I’m not a big fan, but I’m amazed that the promoter has managed to snag him for a gig in Canberra.

Anyways…

I hope this show is better then Heatwave….

Lol.

Way to out yourself as a bogan.

I thought I was pretty bogan … but I have no feckin idea who this David Guetta dude is.

Actually I find it hard to believe he would be as high as #143 on things bogans like. Way to euro dance scene which is not a bogan thing.
