Daylight Saving Still In Operation

Municipal Services have sent out an alert to all media organisations in Canberra confirming that despite their best intentions, daylight saving did not end at 3am this morning.

Citing unforseen problems with the changeover, the Office of Daylight Saving has announced that it will now end 24 hours later, at 3am on Monday 2nd April.

A spokesperson has apologised for the mix-up, which was a result of rostering issues. The officer responsible for moving ACT time forward one hour was sent home by mistake, so the official ACT time remains in daylight saving mode until the problem is resolved.

It is expected that an official investigation will be underway in normal time next week, in the meantime ACT residents who did the right thing and moved their clocks forward are being asked to put them back one hour for just one more day.

What does it do the industry? I’m really asking.

‘Do *to* the industry’, I should say…

I call on th Greens to insist that an immediate investigation into this take place. The climate change implications of an extra hour of sunlight falling upon an area of land the size of the ACT are horrendous, and as good global citizens it it our responsibility to see that appropriate remedial action be taken. In order to offset this unplanned daylight hour, the same quantity of sunligh must be reflected back to space over the comming months. Calculations have shown that the most efficient way to acheive this is for all citizens to reflect a small amount day, by the deployment of “Personal Solar Radiation Relocation Devices”. Materials, and instructions to construct you tinfoil hat will be sent out on the 29th Feb 2013.

On a serious note, when they decided upon the (hospitality industry destroying) Families and Communities Day (to get back the Union Picnic Day Howard destroyed with Work Choices), I received an All Staff Email from the Secretary about two weeks out saying that when the ACT Government gazetted the day as a public holiday, then the provision of our ERA would kick in and we’d get the day off.

These are the people who forgot New Year’s Eve Fireworks one year.

Well, to tell the truth, after so many of the other basic things the ACT Govt seems to screw up, it really wouldn’t surprise me one bit if this kind of ‘insadent’ really did occur.

Could have had that queanbeyan buys the monorail….

Actually, Daylight Saving itself is an April Fool’s joke that lasts six months.

Um, yeah, April Fool’s joke here … clap clap!

Lol according to my iPhone this morning daylight savings didn’t finish in Sydney. As if my phone was set to Sydney time it was on daylight savings time. But Canberra had the correct time.

oh noes, the curtains – someone think of the curtains!

Hillarious, and so close to reality!!

Groan. Lame.

They must have been too busy celebrating the first day of April.
