Dead kangaroos in LBG, just accidental?

Last week I saw a dead kangaroo in Lake Burley Griffin just in front of the National Gallery.

It is a steep shore and it may have drowned accidentally.

Today, kayaking, I noticed a dead kangaroo just off Weston Park East. It is unlikely that it would have drowned there by accident, it is a beach-type shore.

Are there more observations lately of dead kangaroos in LBG?

Is counseling available?

I believe that it is an installation piece, one of the last examples of an “Art” comissioned by the Stanhope Guvmint. I believe that the piece was called “Roundabout”, and it deals with the cyclical nature of life in Canberra, focusing on the aspect of beingnatural, wild and free while drowning in a concrete sea of bureaucracy in elected government fluidity.

Roos swim well… although parts of the lake with steep walls would be a big problem if they did jump in. We had a dog jump in once and I had to hang upside down off the wall to grab the dog and haul it up. so East Basin would be bad, and maybe the central area too. But an area with a beach, hmmm.

Central basin is bad news as well. My German Shepherd did that just off the national gallery sculpture gardens. I jumped in to get her out, but couldn’t manage to climb the ladder and carry her at the same time.

Eventually a nice cyclist stopped and helped.

“In 2013, the closs of critical habitat and the shocking Budget findings forced the ACT Kangaroo population into a deep depression. Kangaroos, no longer able to cope with the mismanagement of the local environment and the national economy, threw themselves in front of moving vehicles in ever greater numbers. For the first time, deliberate drownings were reported on public websites. What could out a stop to the tragedy?”

Probably got a mouthful of water and died! Thanks Queanbeyan! 😛

The river that runs through Queanbeyan comes from a drinking water supply called Googong Dam it, however, does meet the Molonglo at Oaks Estate which comes from Captain’s Flat…

It’s the Queanbeyan sewage works that they are referring to. But every time there’s a raw sewage leak into LBG, people also blame various properties and creeks around the lake. I suspect that’s the Queanbeyan Council PR department at work, but who knows…

Pollution from Captains Flat might kill you, but very slowly.

Maybe they were wearing bicycle helmets, and that’s what killed them?

It is entertaining to watch them swim – the head is the only visible part, and you just have to imagine what is going on under the surface,

Roos use water as a way to kill predators like dogs… they go in, dog follows, roo grabs dog with arms and kicks the crap out of it, or holds it under water to drown.

So looks like dead dog Thursday then…

I guess those kangaroo swimming lessons were a waste of money…

Possibly died somewhere near the lake where it was then washed in? Dead animals turn up in lake tuggeranong fairly regularly after rain.

Looks like its Dead-Roo-Wednesday to go with Bad-Parking-Monday and Car-sticker-Tuesdays….
