Death by reversing car in Campbell

By johnboy - 4 May 2013 35

ACT Policing is investigating the death of a 20-year-old Belconnen man in Campbell early this morning.

Around 12.30am police were called to a disturbance at a Campbell residence.

Upon arrival police saw a man lying on the ground. It appeared he had been struck by a vehicle as it reversed.

ACT Ambulance Service attended the scene and conveyed the man to The Canberra Hospital where he died a short time later.

AFP Forensics Services and ACT Policing’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team are in attendance and are processing the scene.

The driver of the vehicle is assisting police with inquiries.

Investigations are ongoing.

Emma, “educated” at Hawker College, says “To everyone that read whats been rote in the Canberra times it is not true because I was there and I tried my hardest to keep him alive and his family understands wats going on as im corrently with them all now now leave me be until they would let me right my statement than u will all know the truth from the media”

Good God, where do these people come from?

Didn’t you hear? ACT schools now have a gifted and talented class, “Who Can Make the Longest Sentence Without Any Sign of Punctuation or “Conformist Spelling”?

It seems Emma may identify as transgender or, at the the very least, lesbian. One of the comments on the Facebook profile talk about why she was referred to with a female “Ms.”

The only reason I point this out is because as soon as one is described as “Aboriginal”, “transgender”, “poor” or any other litany of adjectives, we start to see “mitigating circumstances” leading to even more pissweak than usual sentences. Some Australian data suggests indigenous Australians are treated lightly in a number of criminal categories (despite their higher representation in jails) and the US is full of statistical studies demonstrating men accused of crimes receive 63% higher sentences than women accused of the same thing (Sonja Starr, University of Michigan).

I won’t hold my breath for the day when the facts of the case (including any relevant reason for a lower/higher sentence) hold sway, not a person’s mere membership of a specific demographic.

Theres enough wrong with this story of bogan mayhem to carry on about without you leaping ahead to complaining about the sentence already. Subtle segue into what is your own agenda BTW.

OMG!! SLAP!!! That was the facepalm heard around the nations capital.

As a former student of Hawker, I must say that I am appalled at her prose. A classic example of Youse, Youse and Youse. Her grammatical skills tell me her children will be named Brayden, Jayden, Heath and Charloine.

It appears, from a quick Google search, that she was involved in athletics some years ago.

The disability catagory in which she competed (TF20) is for those with an intellectual disability.

Her girlfriend appears to be another shining example of our education system.

So woman apparently attacks her lesbian lover’s ex boyfriend, who then runs over and kills his ex girlfriend’s brother who was behind the car..

I wonder what the brother was doing when he was hit.

Probably attempting to stop the ‘wild woman of Borneo’ from wreaking more havoc..

Why there’s such a thing as a right to remain silent. Oh dear.

Oh dear, why am i not surprised, yet another ostensibly unintelligent bogan whose intemperance and stupidity has inadvertently resulted in the death of a young man.

Clearly only violence against women is wrong..

Only took a person’s death to expose her abuse.

Her FB page seems hidden / gone.

Government really needs to mandate that we all have speed bumps at the end of driveways.

In all seriousness she should be charged with manslaughter and domestic violence. Her committing the crime of property damage directly led to the death of someone. If it was a guy beating the shit out of a girls car he’d be lynched royally by the public.
The same as those that throw rocks at cars can be held for manslaughter, so should she. Lets not let gender get in the way of a good lynching.

CT updated on the situation today: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/man-killed-in-campbell-after-disturbance-20130504-2iz9g.html

Turns out Emma Thost-Hedge allegedly attacked the car being driven and the driver’s attempt to escape led to the death of poor Benjamin. You can find Emma on Facebook quite easily.

Let everyone have their day in court but it’s amazing how we focus on male-initiated domestic/friendship circle assaults without looking at the role of alleged female perpetrators of it. Here we have someone who’s been accused of attacking a car. What’s the guy, if this story is correct, meant to do?

Provided Emma is found guilty of the car damage and the driver was not intoxicated or otherwise at fault, she should be charged with negligent manslaughter.

This is a tragedy, regardless of the back story with will inevitably emerge.

I know it makes Poetix a better person than me that she has not commented on the prophetic nature of her post about drivers, reversing vehicles and the capacity for a serious accident. I am weak and have said it. That is all.
