G’day all,

Anyone know of a decent country pub in the Crookwell/Taralga area that has counter meals and accomodation?

I’m heading that way in a few weeks to catch up with some mates before a bucks weekend the next day.

Somewhere we can plonk ourselves at the bar on a Friday night and talk some rubbish for a few hours with a feed.

There are a couple in the centre (main street of Crookwell). We had a counter meal at the one on the corner (cant remember name sorry)and it was fairly substantial and tasty. Just be wary not to go dressed as a punk, Emo, hoody, male with painted toenails &/or facial rings etc as we did on our way to rock festival in Torquay, or you will get REALLY scary looks. We stayed at the camp ground too and that was nice.

If you’d have been there on a Wednesday you’d have been fine! Wednesday night is punk, Emo, hoody, male with painted toenails &/or facial rings etc night! Free schooner for every emo freak that buys a $10 Parmiagarna!!!!

the top pup is the favorite among locals and like funky said there is a restaurant next door the police go thru all the pubs with sniffer dogs so dont take anything illegal with you

Just keep an eye on the dogs, if they sniff towards the bistro, the food’s probably OK!

Either that or the chef smells like a bitch on heat!

The Criterion Hotel (the middle pub), in the middle of the main street is pretty good, years ago it used to be referred to as the ‘swinging arms’ but the new owners have done a really good job at turning it around. Not sure about the food, I think it is just staple pub grub. Accom upstairs

Crookwell Hotel Motel (the top pub), at the top end of the main street is not bad; however after about 9pm it becomes abit rowdy. It has a really good beer garden and I here the food is not bad and I think they run a restaurant next door. Plenty of accom

Laggan Pub is awesome, not sure if they still do food or accom. Only problem is its 8 km outside outside of Crookwell, so you`ll need a designated driver it you plan on having a gut full.

There is also motel there.

Been a while since I`ve been out to Crookwell, I`ve done a few bucks nights there years ago. There is alot of nice people there and a few funny people as well that you`ll get a laugh out of. Bloody cold but!

There’s 2 or 3 in Crookwell that are worth consideration. Or at least they were about 5 years ago when I spent some time there.
Taralga has 2 pubs I believe, and I’ve had lunch at one, and it was quite pleasant.
Other than that, no idea.

For a comprehensive guide to Australia’s regional pubs grab a copy of The Australian Crawl by Scott Watkins-Sully, published by ABC Books.
According to the book, the Laggan Hotel (8kms from Crookwell towards Taralga)is an absolute gem. The Taralga Hotel has also been renovated in recent years and making a good effort.

If you want the book, we have signed copies for $27.95 or unsigned for $30!!!!
