A few overtaking lanes would be sufficient. Why the hell can’t people point a car accurately on a normal country road? why does everyone need double carriagways? Might as well just put in a bunch of fast trains.

I send my husband e-mails all the time at his defence e-mail (he’s in East Timor) and they don’t bounce at all.

Here’s hoping if they build the HQ they’ll fix the damn Kings Hwy into a dual carriageway all around. Then again, knowing the Govt, they won’t.

I reckon they will have very small windows on the complex. In case the terrorists try to point a laser at them to liten on private conversations.

PS: I was told today that all private emails to defence must have [something] in the subject field, otherwise the email will bounce.

Although they say “bungendore” in all the media stuff, in fact it’ll be up on the Qbn side of the escarpment. As near as I can fathom, it’s closest to Burbong (that bridge). Quite a way from Bungendore. I can see up two valleys, and it’ll be in one of them, and apparently houses where mine is will be able to see the complex. I bet they light it up like a fairground.

Good news for the Capital region. Sure the transport and telecommunications services need to be upgrade and most probably will be which will be great for the locals as well.

I wonder if Whinging 2CC Mike Jeffries and local ALP identities cranky Franky Pangallo, ‘snowy hydro’ Steve Whan and ‘wanna be MP’ Kel Watt will now congratulate Gary Nairn on delivering the HQ. Haha, doubt it!

It stands to reason that the gummint would spend $300 mill on a defence headquarters in an area with poor road access, decrepid train lines and no airport… I mean if you can’t get to it by land, air or sea, then perhaps the terrorists will not want to target it?

The problems of having no potable water and a shocking telco infrastructure are, of course, small matters.

Moreover, I’m sure Bangthedoor residents will absolutely relish this great gift, I mean its not like they kicked up a fuss when curb-and-gutter development started. By comparison, a $300m defence headquarters means nothing to a boutique country town trying to maintain some glimmer of heritage value.

Fascinating stuff. I drive through there all the time, I wonder if Smiths Gap is going to get the mother of all grader jobs for it.

Time to buy up Bungendore residential properties…. ah crap, the yuppies beat me to it already.
