Demolition & construction work @ Campbell shops

I’ve noticed there has been demolition activity at the site of the old Service Station at Campbell shops after years of being fenced off.

Does anyone know what the plans are for the site?

I’ve tried searching here and the ACT Gov websites and can’t seem to find anything.

Hopefully a low key watering hole like Edgars in Ainslie are amongst the plans.

Thanks Guys,

Looking at the summary of the DA’s Michiba provided it looks like there was a lease variation submitted to permit the land for one or more of those uses. Based on the Chronicle article DeadlySchnauzer refers to it sounds as though there was an attempt to sell the land.

Given there has been demolition activity at the site recently it may be in preparation for another attempt to sell the block. I did find an ACT Gov initiative/incentive to convert disused Petrol Station sites for other uses. From what I have read there is a waiting period between a Petrol Station ceasing trade before the underground petrol tanks can be removed and any new construction activity can occur.

I suppose we will just have to wait and see what happens next.

Hi,
Long time lurker – first time poster.
Have a look here

Development Application: 200914763
Also this –
Block 1 Section 49 Campbell: A DA was approved on 13 May 2008 for a variation
to the Crown lease to permit one or more of the following – business agency,
community use, financial establishment, office, public agency, residential use,
restaurant, shops and veterinary hospital. Gross Floor Area restrictions apply to the
shops and restaurant uses.

I noticed there was a big “Warning, Asbestos removal” sign up there, so I wonder if it was all just a big asbestos removal operation. Last year the chronicle had an article that mentioned there were no developers interested in the site, so I wouldn’t hold my breath for *any* building going up there, let alone another Edgars.
