Prime Minister Gillard has announced a major shakeup at the highest level of the public service, the dep secs.

    — Don Russell will replace Mark Paterson at the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research.
    — Robyn Kruk AM will return to work as the Chief Executive Officer designate of the National Mental Health Commission.
    — Paul Grimes will be the Secretary of the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities.
    — Ken Henry has been appointed a special adviser to the Prime Minister.

On a side note it’s one of the worst written media releases I’ve ever seen out of any Prime Minister’s Office.

hardly a ‘major shakeup’ – i think grimes was already acting for some time in kruk’s stead when she was taken ill. and hadn’t henry had already finished up at treasury? dunno anything about the innovation job, but presume it was on the cards and not a ‘shakedown’…

Different deckchairs. Same Titanic.

What? No rock stars, movie stars, ex union people or celebrities that know absolutely nothing about governing? Hhmmm….reminds me of the infamous “think tank” of one K. Rudd that involved more of these previously mentioned types that apparently knew more than the rest of us -and it all came to nothing.

Why the hell stop there – there’s a few who could well do with a brushing off. Some of the crap that goes on in the SES ranks, and is condoned at that level, really needs to be changed.

And don’t get me started……………………………………!

Each sentence in that media release: tl;dr.

Does the Governor?General really appoint Special Advisers?
