Desperately seeking hair-do

Having moved here a few months ago I am in desperate need of a decent hairdresser.

By ‘decent’ I mean one who listens to what I want, is good at what they do, one I don’t need to take out a second mortgage on my house to pay for a hair cut, and one that ISN’T justcuts/supercuts/procuts or any other dodgy ‘-cuts’ type establishments.

Ideally all I want is a cut and some foils that look good but cost less than $200! There seem to be a lot of either ‘cheap and nasty’ or ridiculously overpriced places but nothing in between so I’m keen to hear any good recommendations.

Northside would be preferable as I live in Nicholls.

Thanks for your suggestions 🙂

don’t know relevant or not but for men’s hairstyle, watch out for slikhaartv on youtube and ask the hairdresser to do such hairstyle.
They are getting popular day by day and have over 1million followers now and will soon be launching hairstyles for females as well.

Hey , Thought you might be great value for the Mum’s a Hair & Beauty Package $275 for $99 at
Club Hair , need to get the facebook code to claim at http://www.facebook.com/clubhairpamper

I can recommend Rebecca at Ora Hair in Woden (next to the Taubenschag accountant and opposite Oxygen cafe). Especially if you’re not a fan of excess chitchat – she’s all business. A cut of long hair was $70 and she gave good product referrals without pushing brands at me. Very happy with the results (have been twice now).

Hmm, sounds like you DON’T want to go to Enigma Style Hairdressing at ANU. As a guy wanting something as complicated as a short back and sides, I was told by the proprietor “Oh no, I couldn’t do that, you need a style”. Which I subsequently found out meant that I needed an expensive wash and scalp rub with menthol-based head-stinger, and a quiff best suited to a female trendsetter from the 50’s. All of which cost me $50!. I’ll stick to the changing line-up of imported fuzz-snippers at Hair by Charles in the city.

I know you said no justcuts and similar, but I can’t speak highly enough of Paula at Justcuts Belconnen. She is extremely careful about cutting to your desired length, and not several inches higher like most hairdressers. She understands hair growth patterns and how they affect the fall of your hair, far better than most (I have an odd growth pattern and it causes me no end of grief in getting hairstyles that in any way resemble my chosen picture).

As far as I know, they don’t do colour, though.

Jacquie Grandemange 0414 302 618. My wife is extremely fussy about her hair and has been very satisfied with Jacqui’s work. Jacquie is based in Casey and Nicholls.

Go to Charnwood and you can get ‘foils’ for less than $200.

Rhubarb and Me at the Lyneham shops has my vote – they’re the best. Elise and the other staff are great at what they do, and aren’t too pricey either. Definitely give them a call!

Danny (from Labimbi HQ in Civic) is brilliant – he consults with you extensively and explains the process as he goes! The prices are surprising given that you get a lot more than other salons provide – including a massage and champagne!

My partner was very impressed with Kiani Hair Solutions in Gungahlin. Apparently the owner is ex Toni & Guy.

Why don’t you get a regular hairdresser, and with the money saved you could buy some food to take with you to Skyfire.

I’m a guy, so take this with a grain of salt, but the Cutting Crew at the Kaleen plaza always seem to have lots of happy female customers whenever I’m in there.

Become a dude and pay <$30 everywhere.

i’ve been going to the CIT salon in reid for over seven years and have never had a bad haircut. it’s extremely cheap $12 for a haircut last time i checked and the students are fabulous. they listen to what you want and are under guidance from the teacher so they won’t just start chopping away. they are all very skilled, accommodating to what you want from your haircut or colour job and i’ve never had a negative experience there.

I have found a lovely lady & her daughter who works from her home salon in Ngunnawal. Her daughter did my foils and cut the first time I went there, and it was excellent. I have since gone back for another trim, and will be going there regularly. I have fine hair, and finding someone who can cut fine hair well is a bonus. I highly recommend them. 1/2 head of foils & cut cost $80, trim was $25. Let me know if you want contact details.

My vote goes to Cosmo Hair at Dickson. Teni is excellent but I think all their stylists have a good reputation. It has a nice vibe and isn’t too big.

Axis Hairdressing on Barry Drive near Northborne are great. I don’t have a regular hairdresser there because they are all of a good quality and provide great service. Their cuts are under $100, depends a bit o the length of your hair I think.

if you’ve recently moved from one of the big cities, prices here will surprise you – and i can thoroughly recommend gianni ciacia (pron: cha-cha!] at his ‘axis’ studio on barry drive near marcus clarke street. can’t go wrong and he does the best cutting in town (imho). and his coffee is fabulous! 😉

i’ve heard good things about bentleys in jamison – not sure what they charge for foils. I used to go to Cataldos in civic before i moved interstate – they are pricey (but very very good)

sue in john brennan in civic is awesome

I highly recommend Shi in Kingston (sorry its not northside). Dependent on stylist/hair length etc you’ll come in under 200.
