DFO under lockdown?

We’ve had a tip that the Fyshwick DFO has been under lockdown since noon.

We’ll bring you more as we get it but if you know something feel free to share.

This from our source:

Just got a call from my mum who is shopping there and apparently they are not letting people out of the centre or to their cars. One of the shop assistants said this has happened before and last time the lockdown was because of a bomb threat. That’s all I have for now..

UPDATED: Jennybel75 had this to add:

Just got back to work from the DFO. Got there just before it was locked down and we were told we could leave at about 1:45pm. No detail was given except that police were investigating a matter and that no-one could go into or out of the car park. The announcements assured us there was no danger and people were told they could leave by the pedestrian exits. Consensus of opinions from people working there was that it was something to do with a suspicious package. Never thought I’d be glad to get back to work! 🙂

You’d almost think someone had it in for them?

Probably not, which is why this thread had been dead for 2 days.

Does anyone actually give a shit?

We were comparing DFO and Brand Depot at work just today, and I was reliably informed that DFO was by far more popular. Hmmm it would appear perhaps it’s popular with the bombers as well as shoppers? 🙂

Maybe the Snow ‘consortium’ was cruising the carpark armed with knives and broken bottles?

Clearly someone is more annoyed with DFO than with Brand Depot.

Brand Depot, for starters!

DFO gets an awful lot of bombs. I don’t think Brand Depot has had any bombs yet? Just a fire. Clearly someone is more annoyed with DFO than with Brand Depot.

I got some fantastic shoes in Brisvegas … at the DFO!!

*chuckle*

Who needs a ruse? You can never have too many shoes!!

It may have just been a ruse to make people buy more shoes.

Wow, it’s quite fascinating really. You never think of these things when you’re just Mary Citizen doing the shopping. It’s reassuring that those in charge know what they’re doing, even if it does cause a little inconvenience in the short term.

Agreed it’s likely this is a false alarm.

As for bomb timing and damage it depends entirely on the plan being used by the bombers.

But remotely triggered by mobile phones is an old favourite.

The German Red Army Faction on the other hand did amazing things with laser trip wires.

A small bomb triggering panic and forcing the crowd into choke points, which then explode, is also a possibility.

Lacking specific and reliable information about the threat, a lockdown can make sense.

There never is.

Australia is wonderful that way!

: )

There is no bomb and no threat, just bad security theatre.

Nothing to see here.

That does make sense, but how long would the bombs be set for? An hour and a half seems like kind of a long time to be locked in with a bomb.

I’m also wondering in a place like DFO, how much damage would the average bomb do? Would it take out the whole thing or just blow everybody up like thirty feet away or something?

You have to know where the bomb is before you move people.

The emergency exits being a promising target for any would be bomber.

I was kind of thinking that, although this happened to Gramps at work quite recently. They were all under lockdown for about an hour and a half just as he was planning on leaving early.

He thought from the way they were focusing on the airconditioning that there may have been some concern about biological agents.

It certainly seemed odd to us that he was locked in if it was a bomb threat. There would certainly have been a lot of casualties had a bomb exploded.

My goodness!! You would think that if there was a bomb that they would not want to blow up all their customers!!
