DIAC cuts - starting at the top?

I understand one of the DIAC Deputy Secretary’s has left in rather a hurry.

The cynic in me wonders if it is linked to the detainee protests and DIAC’s typical failure to manage the issue with minimal fuss but perhaps it represents an unusual “starting from the top” cut back in staffing?

Love doesn’t come into it. IBM are very good at negotiating contracts that significantly limit ‘wiggle room’. IBM are actually struggling all over town at the moment. Have a chat to some of their ICT outsource customers about how much they like IBM right now…

I thought it was more to do with a run in with the Minister over briefings of a ‘certain overcrowding incident’.

Yes, Bob Correl left two weeks ago and it was no real surprise given the dramas with IBM. There were a raft of other SES changes that happened at the same time.

There are also rumors of a hiring freeze at the APS3 and APS4 level with only temporary contracts to be awarded in the near future.

Where I work we’re shedding at least 300 staff.

Luckily though, Andrew Leigh has assured us that that no-one will lose their job.

LOL – +1

No, I think it’s got something more to do with the close to $1,000,000,000 spent on a new computer system that doesn’t work.

The service provider who implemented the system also has some questions to answer, I suspect.

Who is that?

I think Customs have a lock on that award.

There really should be some award for Defence and the landing ships that we can’t fit our tanks on though

Nice – that’d have to put them in the higher echelons of the “money spent on a system that doesn’t work” leaderboard.

Jackie Wilson or Bob Correll?
