Dickson College on the cutting edge of tired memes

Dickson College’s ‘Trying to be funny by shouting “ME TOO” weeks after the original joke was made’ class have just put out a Harlem Shake video. Note this video has actually been posted up by Dickson College itself. You know a meme is dead once your school administration starts getting involved.

In other news, the Economist is reporting that old people are angry that the Harlem shake videos aren’t doing the real Harlem shake.

Chef Jones, who is in her 50s, remembers the original version. “That’s not authentic. It can’t compete with the Harlem Shake I know,” she says as she moves her shoulders and arms to demonstrate the original move on Harlem’s busy 125th Street.

So old people are cranky, people like me are wanting to move on, and the internet troll machine is going to continue upsetting everyone. Business as usual people.

I have to say though, the kid dancing at the start is amazing.

On the other hand, if they’re having fun (and not just forced to do this) who cares about the age of the meme?

That’s like saying you should never try to write a good sonnet about love, because it’s been done before. (And probably better!)

So lame

What happened to DC? Where’re the bongs and discarded couches? :O If this is progress then I want no part of it! :'(

I’m waiting for the “Gangman Style” parodies to start…

Flash mobs are really cool…and I hear that you can do parodies of a film about Hitler.

Agreed – flash mobs ARE cool… in certain nerd societies.

The Harlem Shake is simply an update of the Harlem Shuffle. The Rolling Stones had a hit with the song in 1986 and that was a revival of a song originally released in the early 1960s.
