Andrew Barr is letting us know what free entertainment will be doing the rounds for New Year’s Eve:

From 9.00pm at Garema Place, Bass in the Place will provide an explosive countdown to 2013 and Canberra’s centenary, set to the beat of Timmy Trumpet, who is currently ranked No.5 DJ in the National Australian Electronic Music Awards, DJ Rawson, DJ Chris Fraser, and Runamark.

The city will be in party mode and I encourage Canberrans to head to Civic for this free, all-ages celebration featuring some of Australia’s most talented DJs, state-of-the-art lighting and an electric party atmosphere.

Canberra’s New Year’s Eve celebrations will also include a family concert in Civic Square, starting at 7.00pm, headlined by one of Australia’s favourite performers, Diesel. Local talent Tuchasoul and Heuristic will also perform.

There will be fireworks displays at 9pm and midnight. Diesel will take to the stage before and after the 9pm fireworks, providing a great opportunity for families to enjoy the early fireworks and party atmosphere.

The state of the art fireworks will be set to soundtracks specially produced for New Year’s Eve. The fireworks will be launched from City Hill – the best vantage point will be Civic Square.

New Year’s Eve is always a special occasion in Canberra and the ACT Government has again ensured that the community and our visitors are treated to a night of celebration and festivity to conclude 2012 and ring in 2013, Canberra’s centenary year.

Both events in Civic Square and Garema Place are alcohol and glass free to encourage a safe and friendly atmosphere.

I just wonder if the new town mayor will make him wear a particulate filter or even force a name change to petrol-electric hybrid.

I stand corrected.

good to see the organisers have secured the services of a genuinely talented musician for once. diesel, or mark lizotte as i believe he goes by now for studio releases, is ever quite brilliant. so, he had more fame in the 90s? doesn’t diminish his talent now…

And though this doesn’t have to come as part of the package, it’s a bonus to get someone who consistently supports the live independent music scene in Australia via his venues in Sydney, Newcastle, and the Central Coast.

Diesel?

I’m sure he’ll ring in the early 1990s with aplomb.

I am surprised to see that The Green and Worksafe have no objections to having diesel on the stage and fireworks then being let off in the near vicinity.
I trust the diesel is bio and the fireworks are risk compliant.
