Digital TV Freq????

Firstly, I apologise if this has been done to death on here, obviously I have missed it.

I picked up a STB [Set Top Box] on the weekend and after wrestling with it for a while, got it sorted.

However, when it scanned for the digital channels I didn’t get the Channel 10/Southern Cross feeds at all, including One.

Does anyone know the frequencies that these are being broadcast on so that I may frustrate myself with it some more this evening trying to find them?

Oops, just got an update – now will launch at 6.30pm on that day, not 7am.

In regards to the original poster, when i first got my STB i was unable to pick up WIN. Solution – i got a slightly taller aerial (an indoors one) and that solved it for me. Could be something as simple as that.

Is Nine’s second digital channel, Go!, available in this country town?

I was going to ask a similar question, although I knew it doesn’t start broadcasting until August. I haven’t been able to find a release from WIN indicating its intention to carry the channel. It will also be interesting given that WIN’s relationship with 9 has been strained over the past few years.

GO! Starts here next Sunday (the 8th), 7am on Channel 80.

SC10 is 177.500MHz. One HD is the same, according to my machine, although that seems odd

Not at all odd for digital.
Digital channels are “Multiplexed” and each station is given some spectrum (air space) in the 7mhz band.
In simple terms this means that one station can broadcast multiple channels on a single frequency, up to 3SD+1HD.
So whereas analogue could only carry one feed per channel, digital can carry various feeds.

That’s also why I can record ABC1 while watching ABC2 with only 1 tuner card

Mr Magoo, where are you? Or, to put it another way, where do you get your TV signals from? If you are in Tuggeranong, try 62 instead of 6.

SBS has appeared to have been pretty cactus over the last few nights as well…

It has, hasn’t it? Every night it seems to have different problems, though.

Years ago when I bought my first STB it wouldn”t pick up one of the channels, so I did some digging around in the menus. Turned out that there was a State by State setting in the startup menu, which if I recall correctly required a reboot, and a change from ‘Australia’ to ‘NSW’ or ‘ACT’. Been a long time so details are hazy but you could look for a regional setting buried deep.

Also typing the model name and number into Google or the forum at Whirlpool.com.au can often bring out exactly what you need.

MrMagoo,

Your real name wouldn’t happen to be Kenneth would it?

I would find great amusement in that.

Um NO

Sounds like your signal is weak. I recommend getting an external antenna. Better still, move out of Tuggeranong.

Thanks Art. Knew there was something clever about this digital thing.

The ACMA list of broadcasting transmitters should help you MrMagoo. There are two transmitters in the ACT with different broadcast frequencies which might be causing you some problems.

Ha ha! I was wondering when someone was going to pose that question!

I find it funny that you can’t get the parliment T.V feed, It goes straight over us to Sydney now for the national capital that is sad.

I had a bit of a “D’oh” moment when I tried recording Sunday’s F1 on our HDD recorder as it is only has an SD tuner. Lucky the EyeTV connected to my computer picked up the slack.

Having said that, my EyeTV doesn’t pick up the OneHD signal if I am sitting at the computer. If I am away from the desk then reception works perfectly. All other channels work fine, it just seems to be OneHD reception that is affected. 🙁

Make sure it is a HD STB – SD ones won’t pick up One.

Other than that make sure your antenna is pointed in the right direction (the same direction as analogue signals) and check if you might need a booster if you are running more than two tv’s off the one cable….

And geez hasn’t the AFL and Isle of Man TT been looking good on HD this week….

Nah its HD, but I just can’t find ONE or SC10

No. Mainly because it has started yet anywhere. It will be available through WIN’s signal – at first on 80 (in SD) then later moving to a new channel number.

To answer the original question, Southern Cross broadcasts on Channel 6 (not to be confused with their digital channel allocation of 5). Try looking at http://www.freeview.com.au for more info about digital TV.

@seekay: Well no. Go! isn’t due for deployment till August.

ie: Real Soon Now, we promise!

I have no idea when the Canberra regional deployment is.

oops missed the transact bit in your message.. may be still valid.. or not

astrojax
i think its got to do with Bit error rate.. you should be able to display the signal strength and error rate for the particular channel you are watching.. in the menus somewhere for your tv(if inbuild decoder) or in your stb menus

if its a high rate, check cabling or antenna

@ all – lots of info here http://www.dtvforum.info

Is Nine’s second digital channel, Go!, available in this country town?

possibly not the right thread, but has anyone else noticed transact tv broadcasts getting micro-pauses (hiccups) at regular but infrequent intervals lately? picture most often stalls while the audio continues, but sometimes audio stutters as well…

i don’t know if it is just sbs, but that is my main channel and it happens on both 1 & 2; and i think i have noticed it elsewhere, not that the teev is on that much, and not frequently other (esp commercial) stations…

When I got a STB it first tried to scan for a narrow range due to factory presets. There’s a setting you can change to make it scan for a broader range of frequencies and that may fix the problem.

I’ve let mine idle for a couple of years and need to be retrained on how to get even one channel out of it. Le Tour c’est fini for the year so the pressure’s off, though the baseball would be nice.
