Dining in Canberra with a 2 and 4 year old?

We’ve just moved to Canberra and need somewhere to go for dinner for hubby’s birthday tonight.

We live near Kippax but i’ll be picking him up from work near the city, so we don’t really mind where.

Our kids aren’t old enough to be in to video games, so we’re hoping for somewhere with a playroom that has dvds or something for younger kids, maybe some toys?

We’ve seen a few places with outdoor playgrounds but obviously it’s a bit cold currently for that.

Does anyone have any advice?

They could go to a restuarant and let the kids run around and annoy everyone

They could go to a cafe with clucky waitresses and not annoy anyone at all. I work at a casual dining kinda place and I love it when parents bring their cute kids! I love serving them little babycinos and sharing a spaghetti bolognese between two kids. I even love bringing them little cake forks and teaspoons to eat with. The whole ritual is just super adorable!!! And it’s so cute when they start telling me their adorable little stories.

Not all the waitresses agree with me, of course. Some of them are nuts and call our kids brats. 🙁

Calm down, it’s all about having somewhere for the kids when they have finsished their tiny little meals but the parents are still eating. They could go to a restuarant and let the kids run around and annoy everyone, but they’re looking for something more appropriate.

Some kids behave anywhere and could easily go out for an evening. Just bring some colouring in/lego/toys they can play with at the table. Other kids can’t manage that. We had one of each and had to stop going out for dinner for a few years when the more energetic one was really young. No kids playrooms in those days.

Spot on – it is not really complicated.

Babysitter?

Heaven forbid that they would want to eat together…or is this another case of you ‘being facetious’?

Nope, just another case of a genuine question being asked, and you acting like an idiot.

There was no mention of the family specifically wanting to eat together. I was curious if they’d considered a babysitter. Stop trying to turn everything into an argument – you’re look like a troll.

Pot to kettle ‘you’re black’.

You really think the op had not considered a baby sitter?

I hope you found somewhere for dinner and had a nice time.

I recall taking my two children out for a special dinner when they were that age, it’s burned into my memory and AKA “The Rice Accident”…

The Mawson Club has a kids play area with games, DVDs, play equipment. Our 4yo has no trouble. Close to dining area to supervise. And you can’t see the pokies from the dining area. Not close to you though.

Agree with the first two responses – West Belconnen Leagues Club will suit your purposes – has a play room.

Been there once food was not bad at all.

The Hellenic Club Bistro at Woden has an adjacent indoor playground and dvd players/games/computers from memory.

Both The Raiders Sports Club & West Belconnen Leagues Club have “Kids Only” areas with access to playstation games. Good food as well.

Best describing a social club more than a Restaurant .West Belconnen has a games room. Kid can play with toys parents can play the pokies!
