Disqualified driver arrested after attempting to hit police officer

Lachlan Roberts 20 September 2019

Police have arrested a disqualified driver who allegedly drove at a police officer after failing to stop for police in the early hours of Thursday morning (19 September).

Around 4:00 am, the man was driving a Toyota hatchback when he allegedly failed to stop for police in Gilmore. A short time later, it is alleged the man drove at a police officer before crashing into a street sign and a parked car before fleeing with the car’s lights turned off.

Around 3:30 pm in the afternoon, police saw the Gilmore man driving a damaged Mercedes. They stopped the vehicle and arrested the man.

The 39-year-old will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with aggravated dangerous driving, two counts of driving while disqualified, failing to stop a motor vehicle for police and property damage.

Anyone with information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
