The luvvies are outraged (OUTRAGED I TELLS YOU) by the pressures which have forced uber-luvvie Dominic Mico to resign from whatever it is he actually does at great expense to the public purse.

Canberra Arts Marketing is leading the charge and Jorian Gardner has sent out an email with enraged block cap liftout quotes such as this:

“IF THE ACT GOVERNMENT WANTS FRINGE TO DELIVER THE MAIN PART OF THE NMF ARTS PROGRAM THEN MINISTER HARGREAVES AND THE ACT GOVERNMENT HAVE TO GET SERIOUS AND COUGH UP THE EXTRA FUNDS.” – Jorian Gardner

“WHAT MAJOR FESTIVAL REFERS TO ITS OWN ARTS PROGRAM AS ‘STUFF?’ (today’s Canb Times. THIS IS NUTS!” – Jorian Gardner [unclosed bracket as received]

Anyone else want to join in the sound and the fury?

The problem is, most people are interested in multiculturalism to the extent that they can eat or drink it. And … that’s fair enough too! There’s only so much belly-dancing one man can stand…

And the “community involvement that runs the festival” doesn’t really seem to reflect any type of arts community that I recognise at any time of the year that isn’t the muticulti fest… it seems to be a lot of blow-ins and try-hards.

Jorian is right this time though – if the govt person who is being paid to look after the arts festival is saying something like: ‘we’ll still have the arts stuff, but the community can provide it themselves while we concentrate on the food festival’ then I would be annoyed too.

Bring back Mr Mico – at least he cares about the arts. Who do they think fostered all this community involvement that they are relying on to run the festival for them?

Why the —- does the Canberra City Council have something with a name as boring as the “National Multicultural Festival”. With a title like that it is absolutely guaranteed to be drab, dull and petrifyingly PC.

And this “national” tag that gets attached to everything in this dump. It’s surprising Mooseheads hasn’t rechristened itself as the National Drunken Assault Centre.

That’s the Lighthouse.

How about the Australian Revellers Seeking Entertainment, Billious And Noisy Drunken Inebriation Togetherness Society(ARSEBANDITS) or maybe Providers Of Rowdy Carnal Entertainment and Revelry (PORCERs).

Because sport actually requires training, discipline, and is an intense drain on body and mind. Arts requires half a BA, a damaged liver, and the ability to wank on about how the government should pay you to sit on your couch and think.

what??!!. you can’t tell me we should be paying the two brain cell tod carneys of the world any more than they have? shall we start a list of the stupid, alcohol / drug fueled public incidents that have involved sports people? theyre no more deserving than anybody else.

Pay them all nothing and put some money in the f*cking hospital where theyre gaffa taping things back together.

As for Jorian, come back when youre a big boy who can construct sentences and turn the caps lock key off. Just because youre argument is louder doesn’t mean its better.

Hey man, I was trying to stick up for you hippies…I’m out of options now, they’re on to you…just start selling drugs and pay your way.

Simbo, Pollocks=Bollocks: whoosh!!!!!!!!

Pandy/rosebud, it would bolster your arguement no end if you didn’t betray screaming ignorance by misspelling the name of the guy what painted Blue Poles – it’s Jackson Pollock (singluar), not Pollocks!

And so bloody what? Winston Churchill was also depressive, and regularly insulted no end of women … the arts/politics/sport/life generally isn’t a personality contest, where only the nice sane normal people produce great results.

Unfortunately, Jorian Gardner is also, all too frequenlty, an uninformed, loudmouth, self-promoting twat who doesn’t really produce all that great results either (yes, he does do a little more than just regurgitate press-releases – unfortunately he also tends to go wildly off-base and not bother to do basic research sometimes)

Pollocks was a depressive, wife bashing drink.

I’ve got two words for all you Kimmy’s out there, two words:

Blue Poles.

Pollocks to you!

On a proper note, Sport would not be where it is were it not for government contributions. Some people don’t appreciate sport as much as they appreciate art. Both are valid exercises in both the body and the mind. Why shouldn’t the government give money to both?

Ah good, I am glad someone has brought this argument up again! To Hell with lazy hippie artists! We need all that wasted arts money for worthwhile things! Like sport! And car parks! And… all that other stuff we want. That isn’t arts.

Yeah…because no artist ever puts work into their work. No siree. They just sit there smoking pot and their art just appears out of nowhere.

IT APPEARS OUT OF THE INNOCENT FISTS OF JOHNNY AND JANE TAX PAYER, THAT’S WHERE IT COMES FROM. I AM SO HYSTERICAL RIGHT NOW.

Anyone remember TAU theatre in Braddon? Mico used to put on his own plays there while CEO, and locked other playwrights and performers out. He had a fully-funded theatre at ratepayers expense to put on his own (very mediocre) plays. Then it burnt down very conveniently when all the paperwork was about to be inspected.

is this the same jorian gardner who writes for citynews? because that sort of comments just scream unbiased journalism

pity if it is because he/she is possibly the only local journalist worth their salt; ie the only one who doesn’t just copy out our pollies press releases and call it an exclusive.

Artists should not be funded by government.

Raise money from private sources – ie like minded people willing to give money away.

Or produce a product that the punters will pay for – of course that’ll never happen

Plenty of jobs for painters in the building industry – but that would mean actually working – not really something that hippies enjoy.

Vic Bitterman6:52 pm 17 Sep 08

Gosh, the artists are outraged. Guess I’d better go drink another hot cup of tea.

can’t we all just get along?

I went to Fringe last year.

The Government should spend more on public artworks than the Fringe.

A waste of money.

I KNOW A LOT ABOUT ARTS, BUT I DON’T KNOW WHAT I LIKE,I AM TELLING YOU!

I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE’RE YELLING ABOUT! LOUD NOISES!

glasscentralcanberra5:25 pm 17 Sep 08

Nope, just the sound and the fury.

The all-caps makes my brain switch off.
Is this a new nutter of the month post?

glasscentralcanberra5:12 pm 17 Sep 08

Nah, only 94.6% of the arts populace are wankers. And Dominic isn’t one of them. BRING BACK DOM!!

amarooresident4:51 pm 17 Sep 08

The problem with the arts is that it is populated by arts wankers.
