Canberra Shorts tonight at the Holy Grail from 8pm… http://www.canberrashorts.com

The Canberra Gay & Lesbian Qwire presents

THE POWER OF SONG
– songs of love and change
Some of the greatest songs of the 20th century were calls for radical change and an end to the fearsome conflicts of the Cold War. They were
revolutionary messages about justice and peace arising out of the countercultural movements of the 60s and 70s. ‘The Power of Song’, the Canberra Gay & Lesbian Qwire’s 2006 concert, brings
many of these great songs back to life and new meaning in the 21st century.
This concert is going to be one of the Qwire’s best: beautiful a cappella and stunning accompanied arrangements of such classics as John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’, great 60s numbers from the era of flower power, and contemporary medleys combining favourites from the decades of protest.
The Qwire is delighted to be singing in this concert with guest choirs Canberra Union Voices and the Sydney Solidarity Choir.
Come along for the ride back to the radical past and into the future where politics and protest as popular movements are returning with a vengeance.

The Power of Song Saturday 4 November, 7.30pm, Llewellyn Hall, ANU School of Music
Tickets available through Canberra Ticketing and Qwire members: $25, $18 concession

This is a Springout Event

I’m sure John’s prepared to give directions to those attending the cricket…

Otherwise, I’ll attempt to culture you folks by mentioning local theatre – Centrepiece Theatre’s final show for the year kicks off tonight at the Street Theatre studio – Dario Fo’s “Can’t Pay, Won’t Pay”, a farce from one of the few comedians to win the Nobel Prize for literature. Performances tonight, tomorrow night and Saturday night at 7:30, then for two more weeks.

Of course the most important event is RIotACT’s cricket in the park behind fenner hall, followed by Loadedog’s Backyard Bachanalia.
