May is shaping up to be a very big month indeed.

But what does this first weekend have on offer to see and do around town?

Just leave your suggestions in the comments.

Hall Markets
Sunday 10am-2pm

I’m there Baron!

I propose we all meet early sunday morning at the old mill for tea. I’ve got a box of earl grey and plenty of hot water, and that should probably be enough for all of us. Could someone bring a gallon of milk, a couple of stirrers (we can share) and perhaps some easy listening music (if you feel its appropriate) and the morning should be a winner. Just one last thing, if your going to come don’t wear any pants. That way we’ll be able to recognize each other.

SOFT SCULPTURE has opened at at National Gallery.
Anyone know if this is a paid entry exhibition?

It’s free.

Soft.

Itchy Triggers at Walsh’s Hotel, Queanbeyan, Friday night 9pm.

re above “The Secret Art of Dr Seuss”- It might not be what you think…. the man had/has quite a bent/dark side, eg THE GRINCH. Think of the brightly coloured, rhyming, energetic characters met with Bill the Cat, the wrong&broken character from Bloom County http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_the_Cat , http://news.yahoo.com/comics/bloomcounty (so not BtC Clinton). I’ve seen these advertised at a gallery in Sydney (see below) with an image of The Cat in Hat looking worse for wear out on bender at some dodgy gin joint. That said…. the Hyatt might tone it down… & not let me in!

So, if you’d like a taste-
http://www.tvhgallery.com.au/exhibition_detail.cfm?ex_id=96&artwork_showtag=Dr.%20Seuss%20TVH%20Exhibition%202006&page_id=4&CFID=35256308&CFTOKEN=94445556
http://www.tvhgallery.com.au/exhibition_detail.cfm?ex_id=132&artwork_showtag=FOR%20WEB%20USE%20ONLY%20DR.%20SEUSS%202008&page_id=4&CFID=35256308&CFTOKEN=94445556
… I’d reckon these folks are doing the Hyatt as well (not on their site). They are unashamedly an “investment” gallery (in which reproductions will feature heavily, particularly for older/populist artists like Suess, but so what if the art tickles your fancy.

& will no-one show me how to do links properly (or pull me up on my verbosity?).

The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss. Free entry, 1st – 3rd May, Hyatt Hotel.

(NB these reproduced works are for sale and I seriously doubt this Seuss person was a real doctor)

Collector Pumpkin Festival – Sunday 3rd May

Nice family day out.
